There is plenty to do there. Great parks, the canals, amazing architecture, museums, Ann Frank's place. Some decent clubs too.
I went many times when I was younger, every time was a haze of smoke and magic mushrooms. It wasn't untill I stopped smoking that I really experienced what Dam has to offer.
2 bits of advice, Get out of Dam square, explore away from the tourist trap and keep your eyes peeled for bikes and trams! |

"What the best things to experience in Amsterdam. it’s our first time going and want to experience the best sights and sounds "
We loved the heinken museam and ice vodka bar. Sex shows are weird/funny as not real. Great trips out pubs and clubs x |

Avoid the worst touristy bits like Dam Square and Rembrandtplein. There are some great quirky little museums as well as the famous ones and great traditional bars away from the tourist traps. If you fancy a sauna Sauna Deco on Herengracht is a cool art deco place or there's a big place near the airport. Saunas in Holland are generally nude. |

"If you want to go to the Anne Frank house get there early before it opens as the queue can get very long during the day."
Book online in advance gets you a priority entrance time. Buy tickets for major museums in advance too. And get a tram pass. |

We love taking in the atmosphere. Keeping away from the main tourist attractions. Just wandering around from pub to cafe to bar and meeting people. Sameplace is our favourite bar.
Its more like a pub than a glittzy club which makes it all the better if you have been enjoying the cafes and bars during the day and want to continue that vibe with an added kink !
It has a smoking area and 420 is permitted which adds to the chilled atmosphere.

For clubs, Fata Morgana or Fun4Two (FUn4Two is a bit further away but totally mind-blowing).
In the daytime, Red Lights District. Sex museum not so good, so don't waste your time. Van Gogh museum. Rent bicycles and cycle through the city to your hearts content - much more convenient and cheaper than public transport or car.
Enjoy! Life is for living x |

the place has become really quite a dull gentrified tourist trap in the last 10 years to be honest .... there's still some fun elements but they're fast being gotten rid of .... shame, as it was probably the most exciting city to visit in the world at one time |

Definitely Fata Morgana and use the cab company from their website. Should be 45 euros from central Amsterdam.
If you're more adventurous then book a night at the Van der Valk hotel in Nieuwerkerk and get the train down there for about 14 euros. There you will find the best swingers club in Europe in Fun4two. |
