I bought a latex dress from Love Honey. Been out in it several times now and I love it.

My question is on maintenance. The leaflet that came with it said i could get products from Love Honey but not looked into this as yet. The leaflet also said to wash in water only as laundry products will degrade the latex. Washed it in the shower (just water) a couple of times now but I am thinking I may need specialist products to keep the latex supple?

So before I splurge out on expensive latex cleaning / conditioning products ... does anyone have tips on cheap but effective (household?) products I can use on it? What should be my maintenance routine?

I don't have any cheap ideas but Vivishine is good and do a kit wash clean and shine.

Thanks sweetheart. I made a similar post on TVChix Forum and got loads of suggestions there.

Thanks hunni, you are so sweet to say...

No that outfit was PVC. That pic was taken a while back. Then I was in a relationship for seven years, it didn't get any wear. Recently single again, I wore it to Torture Gardens and the whole outfit started disintegrating...!

That is why, this time round, I am keen to maintain latex and PVC in best condition for as long as I can because this single girl has found her dating mojo.... woohoo!

Put talc on the inside before you store it - the talc will help stop the dress sticking to itself and potentially being damaged if you have to pull it apart.

Vivid shine works wonders. Polish is always the best to get on and off. Talc doesn’t work as well. Polish makes it slip straight on.

To wash the latex, very mild baby/newborn wash should do the trick. Non perfume and colour. In instances where water is not enough. Avoid anything with oils or petroleum/mineral oils. A good tip is to actually wash it in the shower while you’re still wearing it and you can remove it after. After a night of wear you get very sticky/sweaty and it’s a nice way to solve both problems at once!

Talc is non negotiable when storing it as latex clothing can rip and tear where the latex sticks to itself. Be generous!

Talc can be used to help put latex items on, but in my experience a silicone lubricant is much much better/easier/more comfortable. I use Pjur original as it’s both a dressing aid/lubricant AND a latex shine product. They also come in small bottles that you can take in your handbag while you’re out. I’m always having to reapply to get the high shine that looks so incredible on latex!
