I know it's now against the law to do this, does this cover fab pictures too? Any advice welcome. If anyone has experienced this, how did you handle it?

No. The laws of the lands absolutely do NOT apply to fab. This site is a hotbed of illegal activity...

Actually I just Googled "revenge porn law" and apparently it DOES apply to fab. I stand corrected.

I just googled 'revenge porn law uk' and it states it covers sharing private images without consent on social media and email.

So that should cover fab.

It's funny isn't it, they don't have the manpower to even visit people that get burgled yet I bet they find lot's of officers to perve over someones mucky pics.

Was actually going to say that the police do take reports seriously. I'm sure someone posted their experiences on the forums...

We're they public pictures? I suspect that is possibly a consideration but i also would assume the reason they were sent would be a factor? If someone sent a link to one of your pictures to a fellow fab user saying "look at these" that would be very different to sending them to an employer or family member with the sole intention being to cause distress

So long as you put the Sydney University disclaimer on your profile you will be safe.

If the pics are publicly visible I wonder if the RP law would apply, they aren't private pictures, after all. Whatever the case, it's a shitty thing to do to someone.

Becuase people are huge gossips and love to share in the knowledge that someone may be on here despite being so themselves.

It's happened to me. To a point anyway.

Although, seeing as you/me personally have uploaded the photos to what is essentially the public domain, I don't think it's going to be covered under the revenge poem law. By uploading them here for public viewing you've essentially given permission for people to view them.

If you wish to be discreet, we believe it's wise to keep your photos private and view them at your pleasure. Never send any photos to anyone.

As soon as put photos on the internet, that Sydney thing is a complete waste of time. Read the FAQ on this site.

Revenge porn is where you publish private photos without seeking the subjects permission. So if you take a photo of someone else that you're having with, make sure you get their permission if you have them on your profile/album.

It's a small world, it just takes a work colleague that has been to your house to recognise that background in your photo. Or you send a photo to someone who recognises you, they go quiet on you, and then blab to others.

Just because someone sends you a photo claiming it's them, beware, it may have just be a copy of a one they've received off someone else.

Someone might want to do it for revenge....clue is in the name. Luckily the law is there to prevent it.

In your bed

Given the wording of the revenge porn law, if they were publicly available photos then I doubt there would be a case.

However, you may have a case under harassment.

I often wonder with paperazzi how they seem to get around these laws when they take shots up skirts of ladies getting out of taxis and using photo zoom lenses to snap women on holiday.

Yes they are famous but you'd imagine the law still applies.

Unfortunately they do

My pics have been copied and sent pretending to be me to others , setting up accounts on other sites and even charging for pics

That’s why I watermark my name on them now and urge everyone else to do the same xx

I would imagine it's because it's legal to photograph people in public and distribute those pictures.

What's not legal is to take pictures from private sexual encounters and distribute them to others.

I thought it was pretty much universally well known that the 'Sydney University Disclaimer' was just some kind of weirdass hoax that means absolutely nothing?

i think sidney university did actually do a study several years ago and somehow this essentially useless disclaimer appeared.

it may technically provide grounds for a civil claim but wouldnt actually stop the use

Lots of universities have done studies on swinging and similar. But in order to study real people you have to go through an ethics committee and get it approved - you wouldn't get approval to just trawl through a swing site and take stuff.

If somebody is brave enough to take any of our pics then good luck to them!!!

We actually read the site faqs etc and never bothered to put it on our profile, however I can see some people may take a bit of comfort thinking they are protected in some way?

You're broadly right. Sending pics on here to other people without consent would be covered by the law. By posting here, you've consented to members of the site viewing them. You have consented for them to be sent to your employer, mum etc.

This revenge law is going to be extended out to general passing of images as of 2019.

Not sure how they are going to govern and police it but it's going to be illegal to send any form of nude pictures to anyone. Consensual agreement won't apply, it will be illegal in any respect

Bit harsh on the more mature of us who can happily swap pics without fear of them being broadcasted publicly.

It's absolutely against the law to share nude pics of anyone without theirs consent regardless of who the are, where you got pics from.

I had my private images shared by a woman off here a couple of years ago. Reported to police who paid her a visit with a stiff warning as they took it very seriously. There was no prosecution but I would have been prepared to go to court.

We have started to watermark our photos . There was an advert on Craigslist for a couple looking for a young lad..they actually used one of our picture (her boobs popping out of a dress)..I emailed the advert and told them to take our picture off..but the advert soon disappeard anyway ..it must have been some sort of scam and it got flagged for removal. Thats the downside of posting pics on sites like this..Thats why we would never show our faces in any nude shots too as they could end up anywhere

Unfortunately it doesn't.

You put those photos in the public domain by putting them on here. However, the person can be done for other offences than revenge porn. Eg malicious communications or stalking.

Wrong. If YOU wanted to post a pic of YOURSELF that DOES NOT give the right for ANYONE ELSE to take your photo and use it else where. Just because it's online, does not mean you lose ownership.

You could sue the person under copyright laws too, and you don't need that silly disclaimer on your profile to protect yourself either.

Currently have an open police case about it. They've said it won't come under revenge porn because I put pics in public domain and anyone can access them. and it'll be stalking and malicious communications instead.
