I have been to Buddies and I had a great time but it is what you make it.
The comments from the above posters are in effect true.
We dont smoke and it is like walking into a blue haze. As we were going with a group of people for a birthday weekend, the hotel was pre-chosen by others. We are not the hardened anti-smoking brigade and we just got on with it, but admittedly after the end of the evening our eyes were streaming and we had sore throats. The only places which didnt seem to have smoke in were the 3 playrooms, fairly smallish playrooms, not really set up as a club etc, but we were forced to go and play to have a break from the smoke
The decor was very basic and the room could have done with perhaps a little makeover, but it wasnt dirty.
The owner was great though. Yes he was rude, yes he swore at people constantly, but it is up to you how you take it and how you react to him. The first time we went down to breakfast, a woman asked for another pot of tea, he replied, 'no you fucking cant'. I laughed as I found it really amusing in a kind of explicit Fawlty Towers kind of way.
We sat down for breakfast and the owner came up to me and said, 'Oi you, get your tits off my table'. I could have been offended and let that spoil my weekend. I replied, 'what do you suggest I do with them, throw them over my shoulder'. He answered, oh we've got a fucking joker here, but came up to me and tapped my shoulder and said, you're alright love, and therefore we had a bit of fun, insulting banter going on the whole weekend. I really liked his bold, brash behaviour, sometimes a little of that rather than the snidey underhand insults you get in life is refreshing.
It is what you make it. If you decide to have a good time, you will. If you decide to take the swearing as an insult, and the smoke as offensive, and the decor as too basic, then you will have a crap time. But I looked on it as we were there for a birthday weekend, we were in Blackpool which is hardly a 5 star resort and we made our own fun. |
