Seek out events called a *rope munch* or *peer rope workshop* these bring people in the fetish scene together to share their love of rope bondage & you can usually find someone willing to show you various ties, and other people called "rope bunnies" who will let you practice tying them.
These events are usually fully clothed events where you are simply learning your skills plus the safety aspects of rope work, I highly recommend attending some if you are serious about the form of play. |

Often my fwb likes to be tied up when we meet well when we do it outdoors he likes it so i just use a simple knot i get his hands behind his back wrap the rope around & cross the left over right & then the right over left so if needs be the knot can be easily untied without the need of a knife etc |

For starters Esinem has a great free online course on rope safety, avoiding nerve damage etc. The other courses and DVD are really good as well if you're interested in shibari.
Crash restraint is another great, and free, resource.
A good first knot to learn is the Somerville Bowline, I like the WykD Dave method of tying it. It's a quick foolproof knot that won't tighten under force for wrists, ankles or any other 'single column'.
Following that learn the captured overhand cuff on Crash Restraint for tying a second 'column' with the same rope, and the larks head double column for tying two together. You can do an awful lot with just those three knots. |
