It's against site rules.
We can't inform other of potential timewasters, dangerous or people who end up being pests.
Yes as individuals we can block them but telling others is difficult.
I had an idea of having a system like eBay where you can leave positive or negative feedback.
Obviously it needs some thought to make it work to prevent abuse and people leaving negative feedback due to being rejected.
But I am pretty certain that it can be made to work regardless if you then subsequently block them the negative or positive feedback score stays.
But as always it doesn't stop people leaving and coming back.
This is as well as the verification system.
But feedback can only be given if both parties have met.
Or tried to at least .
I am pretty sure that people will be along soon with many reasons why it won't work.
But as few people seem to be coming with a realistic ideas to tackle this issue.I thought I would make a suggestion.
Thoughts please good and bad. |

I dont see how it could work. It would be open to alsorts of abuse. As is the verification system
Thats why i wont be party to the 'veri' thing. I dont feel the need to broadcast my sex life to the world, and it doesnt really mean alot anyway. Who's to say any of it is true? People say anything to get what they want and manipulate. We've all seen people airing their dirty laundry in public. Usually ends in tears doesnt it? |

We've had forum discussions around these types of ideas.
The only/current solution is to report them and then block them. We haven't a clue what admin does about it, maybe if they get the same problems with a profile they may take action.

IF the site admins have proof that someone has genuinely been a timewaster then access to that list or even kept private but if you search a name on it you get told if its there or not? But again proof needed of planning a meet would be shown.
But then that means admins gathering the proof, compiling a list and someone checking to see if you have actual proof. Very time consuming and the admins have enough to do already |

Well then perhaps maybe admin can be the ones leaving the feedback score ?
That way you have to send a message to admin explaining what happened then its down to them to add positive or negative feedback? |

Yup. And its always gonna be one persons word against anothers.
Look at how flawed the verification system is. Most of its nonsense. People are always complaining about fake veris
The way i see it, you pays ya money, you takes ya chance. I have had some horrendous experiences. Nowt else to do but suck it up
And bide my time until I can get revenge. Haha |

Admin can't posdibly do that, it's just not realistic.
Just meet well verified people. Or arrange a meet at a club if you are unsure. |

Are timewasters really a problem or is it just a minor inconvenience. We have had people back out and it all cool, who wants someone ti turn up half hearted. |
Reply privately (thread closed by moderator)
You have been hanging around the forums for ages, you must know that peoples definition of 'Timewaster' covers a huge area.
To most of us it means a no show.
To others someone who like to message for more than 5 minutes before arranging a meet.
Then there are those didn't answer his 'fancy a fuck' message so is definitely a timewaster.
And don't get me started on peoples definition of 'fake'. |

How would you prove to Admin that they were a no show, or are you OK with Admin taking everyones word as the truth, that every report is honest and none are vindictive? |

Other sites do positive and negative reviews. It's not rocket science. |
Reply privately (thread closed by moderator)
I think we have all suffered from timewaster and I've named and shamed...and served the ban.
The problem is someone could give you a horrible review and you may not even have spoken to them.
Report and block is ok but you get no feedback from admin.
Therefore you have no idea if your complaint has been acted on. Surely it would be better if admin provided some feedback x |

Cool! So let's take an example from another thread. A nasty guy takes a woman on a car journey against her will.
She manages to escape but he leaves her negative feedback because she didn't put out.
All fair? |

Is there a way to protect yourself against these people if you meet off fab? If you hook up in a bar or on one of the online dating sites? What precautions do you take in day to day life? What do you tell your sons and daughters about meeting strangers off the net? Strangers who could be anybody hiding behind a key board.
There isn't a reliable way to warn other people about those who would mess us about or harm us. And although I think we should all be free to live our life without fear of harm it just isn't possible and in this imperfect world all we can do is protect ourselves.
If someone wastes your time its frustrating but not life threatening.
If a guy you have only talked to online wants to pick you up in his car, say no.
Don't be alone with someone you don't know well unless you and they know you can get help quickly.
If you have the smallest doubt, walk away.
It shouldn't be like this but it is. |

Maybe just ask the other site how they deal with it than allowing the fringe examples to set the rules for the mainstream. |

All sites suffer the same problems and probably impossible to control. |

Take other sites that used both positive and negative feedback, and a rating system. Trip Advisor, for example, I go on quite regularly to read reviews on hotels we're going to stay at, restaurants and places we intend to visit. I don't take someone's review as gospel, as everyone's experience is subjective to themselves, but I have come across some reviews that have been quite clearly, were either bribed by the owners, or were written by staff. A case in point: a restaurant which we had previously visited and that I wasn't impressed with, was rated 4.5 stars. Any reviews over 3 stars were poorly and vaguely written, all from the same area, only just registered and was their first review. For every negative review that appeared, a barrage of these extremely 'positive' reviews would appear. Every now and again, I go back to read if anything has changed since we were there 2 years ago, I find it still going on. Only recently I reported one review that was criticising a previous reviewer of the same place. Clearly, this reviewer was connected to the restaurant in some way, as they said how much the other reviewer had paid! It was soon removed. Other reviewers have suggested that something funny was going on
The moral of the story is: feedback and rating systems isn't foolproof, as it's open to abuse. Members have to judge for themselves whether feedback appears genuine or not. Yes, the verification system on fab isn't foolproof, and reporting of profiles and timewasters appears in some cases not working, but I imagine that Admin can't just ban people for only one complaint. They probably keep records and only act if there's evidence or multiple instances of complaints from different people. Frustrating as it is, just block the profile and move on. |

We put the name of the couple in our update status, if we have been messed about.
By the time it goes off at least all our friends have seen it.
Not the whole answer we know, but warns our friends at least |

I think the site can help vet legit people from the start. Photo verification is private and takes minutes to do, yet so many people don't bother, and as a single guy I do wonder how many single females are legitimate. Also I think that when people register, they should put more than 1 sentence on their profile, how many times do you see the same thing written, it's like a copy an paste session on every other profile |

Photo verification pics can be faked. It doesn't prove anything. There's auto text if people don't add their own, you might be seeing that. e.g. "Straight woman looking for men."
People with no profile text are weird. Why the fuck would anyone mail them??! |

Aren't you all waiting your time to talk that much about Timewasters ?
Just get over it, some people aren't genuine, some are and there you go. Then it's up to you luck to find the genuine one.

Here is an explanation from Admin from another thread on how they deal with reports.
******Just a quick note. If people report others and we can verify that they have broken site rules, we always take action (either a first and final warning, partially suspended account, fully suspended, mixture of the above).
Every single report sent via the REPORT link is reviewed. Clearly it's not in our interests to have people on here who are bad for the site. Equally we need to verify what has been reported and be fair to those who have been reported.
Admin
PS. we never provide feedback on what has happened. It's just not practical given that we get 100s of reports a day.
Here is what the page says after a report has been submitted:
--
Your feedback has been saved.
A website admin will shortly review your feedback and take the necessary action. After reviewing the evidence available to us, we may disable an account, remove a user, disable certain aspects of that user's account or issue a warning.
By leaving feedback you help improve the site for everyone who uses it. Thank you.****** |
