Unless you're having regular NSA bisexual or gay sex, or are being intimate with intravenous drug users, or people from the African subcontinent, regularly taking PrEP is somewhat overkill. You're much more likely to catch Chlamydia or HSV. |

Also if its a one of the best course of action is in fact the PEP pill get that from time of potential exposure to 3 days after. Its about 85-90% effective.
Im d/d including hiv free thankfully but in regards to hiv I just want to say its not life altering in anything but social stigma these days full life expectancy and the same as a "healthy person".. The stigma Is a gripe of mine having a gay friend that has it.
(I know the op never suggester otherwise) |

"Has anyone used PrEP and yes we have after an exploding condom best negative result we ever got"
PrEP is different to PEP. It's PEP that is usually taken after possible exposure to HIV, not PrEP. |

PrEP means “pre-exposure prophylaxis”, and the tablets are called “Truvada”. They contain two antiviral drugs – Emtricitabine and Tenofovir. The dosage is one tablet on the day before taking a risk, one tablet on the day, and one tablet on the day after. The cost in the UK is £400 for a bottle of 30 tablets. I buy 4 bottles every year when I’m in Bangkok; 2 for me and 2 for my steady to keep her safe (she’s an occasional prostitute). Each bottle costs £70 from The Bangkok Hospital. I take a pill before I leave the UK, a pill every day in Bangkok, and a pill on the day I return to UK. I have a full battery of STD tests four weeks after the last pill, and am celibate until I get the results, to avoid the risk of infecting other people. The bugs stop here.
PEP means “post-exposure prophylaxis”, and the tablets are Truvada plus Kaletra (Lopinavir/Ritonavir. Treatment must begin within 72 hours of possible infection. I don’t know the cost of Kaletra.
594 people died of AIDS-related causes in the UK in 2015.

My god when I read threads like this I'm scared how uninformed most of you are and think you are clued up. I can see why disease spreads so readily but some of you really should get informed. It's scary and sad. |

it is not as life altering as its was years ago in some respects but i'm sorry, it's simply not true to say it's not life altering! |Unfortunately lack of education on HIV in recent years has left a lot of people with the stupid notion that it's somehow 'not that bad' nowadays. |

more information is DEFINITELY needed in the scene. |

I think it's sad that people are using it to enable them to have unsafe recreational sex, when there are gay and bi sexual people that should be taking it because they are at a high risk, even though they play safe, but can't afford it, and it isn't available freely on the NHS. |

I think it's sensible.
The more people using it the greater the reduction in the population.
Gay and bi individuals can buy it and can also practice safer sex. |

It's needed everywhere!...but people having sex, i would hope, are adults, and as such are also responsible for informing themselves as well..plenty of people seem to only hear what they want to,when it suits them.. |

"£400 to be a little safer from life altering and life ending conditions. Sounds like a bargain.
I'm all for safe sex. But if you are going to take a risk then £400 is nothing. "
Quite right, no price is too small to pay. Some comments worry me here. Yes it is after you have been exposed, but Prep is before, so if I go to a club then I take PRep, just a little less to worry about and safe as well, but that is me as in most instances I never know where a guy has been xxxxxx |

I saw an interesting article earlier reporting on a micro drug pump system. The idea is that these are small enough to be subcutaneously (?sp but under tbe skin) implanted and then deliver a daily dose of medication for a year. A PrEP application was one of the key targets for the developers. |

There is some poor information here, quite frankly it's disturbing that individuals make choices without knowing all the facts.
As has been stated there is a big difference between PREP and PEP.
Just google "I want PREP". You will find that it can be bought from reliable overseas sources that have been checked and verified by THT/NHS.
The cost is from about £40 per month, not £400. Taking PREP is a responsible thing to do protect yourself, your partner and any playmates.
£40 is a small price to pay per month. If you have Sky TV you can afford PREP |

The problem is finding a RELIABLE overseas source. You are using the internet, where you can buy chalk pills convincingly labelled as “Viagra”.
I buy my Truvada in one of the largest modern (expensive) hospitals in Bangkok, using a prescription from one of the hundreds of doctors who work there.
There is a free alternative. Be celibate after every risk until you have had the results of a full set of SDT tests. IF you avoid high-risk partners, this is a reasonable course to take, because the chance of contraction H.I.V. will be minimal. Also, any infection will not then be life changing because little damage will have been done to your immune system.

I'm dubious the BUS would ever back up the claims of a company illegaly selling perscription medications on the internet.
I think that's jist msde up by the site selling them to yoi |

There is nothing made up. The pills obtained can be tested and verified by NHS clinics.
I'm not advocating bareback sex. I'm merely trying to give some balance to the forum. PEP is not PREP; but it's not the answer for everyone. That said, it is a viable option if bareback sex is your decision. |

And here we go again.
594 people died of A.I.D.S.-related causes in the UK in 2015. A.I.D.S. is the terminal phase of H.I.V.
H.I.V. destroys your immune system. Gradually. When treated early, all you have to do is get tested regularly, and take the pills every time the virus emerges from its niches – like cold sores. The longer that treatment is delayed, the greater is the immune system damage. No treatment at all will result in a severely compromised immune system – called A.I.D.S. - and you will die of some disease which normal people are immune to. So H.I.V. is both trivial and deadly. It’s all a matter of time.
