Be careful. They can be pretty intolerant there.
Walking down the street holding hands with someone you're not married to. Sharing a room with them. Could see you in prison.
Someone with my gender issues and sexuality..... noooooo. I think I might face the death penalty or something pretty severe.
Never thought of it before and now I'm out like this I'll never go there again. |

Google dubai sex laws.
They do not tollerate sex outside of marriage...12 months jail time
A couple went on their engagement and got assaulted, when the police looked into it, they arrested her boyfriend because he shared her hotel room.
One of the few places not to mess about it....especially with dress codes (can get you arrested) public displays of affection (1 month for stroking someones back) |

"Dubai is a seedy wahabist theocracy. If you a have an imprisonment fetish , knock yourself out.. otherwise tread carefully. Yikes." this, hated the place, travelled with 2 gay friends who felt they had to act 'straight ' for 3 days. |

And yet they do have prostitutes in some clubs. A friend went to a club (2013)and she asked for 200 dirhams to follow him back to our hotel room. |

Every country in the world has extra marital sex. I think what they really resent in dubai is foreigners disrespecting their laws by doing things in public. I won't pretend that there aren't probably some racist zealot police who would also like to catch you in a private setting but people who have been there told me most won't care what you do in private. |

No "PDA" - public displays of affection are allowed
HOWEVER things like holding hands etc is generally ignored as you clearly won't look like a local. Don't do anything more than thay it's fine.
In general hotels/apartments are family friendly. So that means no sex or prostitution. But there are hotels for this where many things are blatantly ignored. Just gotta find the right hotel |

Totally, the UAE gets a bad rap but I love it out there and go 3-4 times a year.
Yes it's different from here but saadiyat beach is pretty much like any beach.
I certainly wouldn't behave in anyway that doesn't agree with the customs. There's no trouble out there because I'm guessing not many break the rules. |

Police reports are written in Arabic and they won't translate them for you. Just expect you to sign your 'statement'.
For example I had a friend who's briefcase was stolen by someone smashing his car window. He can read Arabic, and the statement they wanted him to sign said some boys had broken the window by accident playing football. No mention of his loss.
They ensure there are low crime figures. I can list several other incidents when the police actively ensure they get the result Dubai would like.
I wouldn't believe the statistics. They are warped. |

We didn't have any issues in the UAE either, this site wasn't blocked, but didn't log on for long periods just in case . Held hands in the shopping malls and saw lots of others doing the same.
It is their country, so except their rules. If you like a good drink ( which is very expensive ) don't show it in public and spoil it for yourself, as they really won't tolerate it or you....other than that enjoy.

If flying on Emirates they don't sell duty free alcohol on the planes, just pick your cigs and booze up after you have collected your bags.
Never have had any issues in Dubai or Abu Dhabi... alcohol is only available in hotels or the odd restaurant.
You can wear what you want on the beach, just dress moderately when shopping or sightseeing..... hotels turn blind eyes to non married couples sharing a room.
Been twice and its ace!!!
My tip is to for a Friday brunch at latitude at the jumeirah beach hotel, get an entertainer voucher off eBay and it works out about £50.each for all you can eat and drink (all alcohol is included).....got proper value for money with the cocktails |

Dubai is a place of extremities. Mini bikinis on the beach is fine but sex on the beach at night landed a couple from Britain in prison.
I wouldn't think of hooking up with anyone on this or similar sites in the Arab world.
May sound paranoid , but even checking your profile on-line may present the perfect evidence against you that you are a 'pervert'.
Be wise! |

British people often stuggle to understand countries where common practice isn't what's written in the rule books. Nonetheless the rule book in Dubai is a bit eye watering... |

But you do get to occassional horror stories about unmarried people arrested for this and that. Why do you think they get caught whilst lots of other stuff goes unpunished - are they just unlucky or are there periodic crackdowns? |

I think people can be unlucky and people can just be stupid. I heard a story of two getting caught having sex in someones back garden. That is just stupidity doing that out here |

The point is regardless of how relaxed some find it,their laws are Draconian, they may not always seek to enforce them but if a "perfect storm" takes place and the unfortunate party is found to be engaging in practices that are considered trivial elsewhere but contravene their customs . They can throw them into jail, administer lashes, mutilation..
UAE like any country with that degree of mineral wealth and laws based on Sharia its obviously extremely sleazy with many corrupt officials that are paid off to look the other way. |

i work in dubai and been here 2 years. you will surprised what goes on and as long a you are discreet its fine. Just dont do it in public as all it takes is one person to complain about your behaviour. |

Be careful what you pack in your case! A couple of years ago coming back from travelling my ex and I had a two night stop over and had a vibrator that was packed in our suitcase destroyed by security as unknown to us they're forbidden.
Shame, it was a favourite one too!
Just keep an eye out for a soft security white security tag on your case when you get it from the luggage carousel |

Been to Dubai - 11 times.
Never had any problems.
Safest place in the world.
Take no notice of anyone who says you can't do this or that - as long as you aren't walking around the place in just a bikini you'll be fine. A load of brits out there. Me and my ex girlfriend went 4 times - never been married, never had any problems sharing the same room.
If you act sensible and respectful you'll be good.
Great place - where you staying? |

Don't believe what is written here. I have been going to Dubai more than 15 or 20 times in the last 10 years, and never had any problems. I went there with my ex-girlfriend a lot of times and we never had any problems.
I was also there with my lady friend, mixbicouple, 6 weeks ago and we mete a few couples. The only problem is that most of the guys there pay some ladies to go out with them in order to have a 4-sum with others. It is best if you can meet a cpl that are based in Europe, but who are on their holidays there.
If you want to buy Alcohol it is best to buy it from Dubai-duty free at the Airport.
Wish you a good trip and enjoy. The only problem is between May to Sep it is very very hot. |

A woman I worked with reported being sexually assaulted by two guys recently and found herself arrested and charged. I would stick to the rules there. |

Having travelled yearly to Dubai for the last 8 years , be very very careful.
A lot of the hotels are littered with prositutes , " The York " being the biggest , all the night staff / reception are always looking out for girls returning to guest rooms .
Have fun |
