Firstly step I would try is a system restore.
Rolls back your windows setup to before the virus was installed.
Cal " few years ago this was true but with adware theses day you need to remove it. |

Still works for 99% of all the viruses I come across, and is still always on my list of tools to try.
Without knowing the actual virus it's hard to give specifics.

You really need to know what virus it is before knowing how to handle it.
Hopefully it's not one of the ransomware ones that encrypts all of your documents and pictures etc.
Malwarebytes is good as previously mentioned but that is geared more towards other types of malicious software rather than a virus.
Combofix works well on windows 7 and older os'. |

Anyone not running anti virus is just asking for trouble, with so many free ones out there I don't understand why they are not.
Ok so you get the odd advert on the free one but that's a small price to pay.

ESET is the best anti virus going. It is not intrusive but is very very strong at getting rid of shit off your computer.
I had some trojan thing on my laptop the other day which it found when I did a scan. Got rid of it no sweat.
However I think it's not cheap. Fortunately the company I work for pay for it. |
