"Really if u go bareback with no partners u shudder check every two weeks after intercourse x"
Bareback or even safe with no partners is fine, no need to get checked.
Bareback with new partners however is different |

Thanks for all your answers.
Read a bit about it on the web, it basically comes down to how active you are and if you have protected or unprotected sex.
They do recommend Minimum once a year and should be done every 3 to 6 months if you have different partners.
Interesting to read that each STD has its own incubation period and some STDs should be retested.

Its worth having HIV teat as well, the NHS are keen to get data to see how the results have changed since they began treatments, even Prince Harry has done that one...
Also worth having HEP B jabs if either of you play with other males ...

When we were very active we got into the habit of going every 4-6weeks. We still do as we do go to clubs every week.. and sometimes more than once. So every 3 months wouldn't be responsible really..
Most things now do show on the newer tests much more quickly..although we have been lucky enough to not catch anything.
It is getting harder to find clinics that will do throat swabs too. Have to actually demand them now and they are not to happy x |

Do you know the reason their not happy doing throat swabs?" its to do with cut backs. They only do it because i make a fuss...but with it seen as a much lower risk I guess its not deemed necessary. |

I had to ask last time but they didn't seem too funny about it. |

"How often are you meant to have a check at the clinic?
People on here say they have a regular check up. Is that once a year? Twice a year? Every month? "
Lots say they have check ups but don't.
Get check ups for your own peace of mind.
But always use protection with other people as you cant take the risk. |

most fundamental aspects |
As said, the minimum recommended by clinics for those active is 3-6 months.
It's also worth noting, that HIV and Hep will not show in results for up to 3 months after contact. So if you're worried about a specific encounter, you'll need to get tested, then go back again to test.
I use the local sexual health clinic, as I prefer that my GP surgery not know every detail of my sex life. It's recorded but only by reference number, so no one should have a reason not to go. Even if you think you're being careful |

The half life of most infections is about 2weeks..so getting checked every 3weeks for the more active people is probably safer..it's a numbers game..you could be with the same person for years and not know they have slept with somebody else (this site proves that) and could have something without knowing..best advice is..if you think you should get checked..go get checked |

I go every 3 months. Not overly active but best to be safe.
I'm there on Tuesday morning.
The first time I went, I was nervous but now it's just like anything else. If there's no symptoms, I get sent to the toilet with a swab and do it myself. Then the nurse takes my blood. Simple as!!!! |

"How long to generally get results back?" usually within 3 days to a week. They did say allow ten days but now my clinic only rings if there is an issue.

I get it done every 12 weeks. I go to the local sexual health clinic for my contraceptive injection and they are brilliant.
I went Thursday evening and whilst chatting to the dr I mentioned that I was a swinger - she said her and hubby used to swing She did full bloods, mouth, anal & vaginal swabs then recommended a booster course for Hep B.
All free. Then she gave three packs of condoms, so I have 36 durex now . I only get notified if something is wrong. 3-5 days |

Doc told me throat swab was necessary as I give unprotected oral sex. |

We play safe and go for testing every 12 weeks just in case. They have given us hep B innoculation too. Always friendly and relaxed and results back by text.
So easy and beneficial everyone should do it. |

I've always been offered a throat swab, have never had to ask. |

"How long to generally get results back?"
I get checked ever 3 months or so but today I went to my local sauna which has a visit every couple of weeks by the STI testers so took advantage.
The guy stabbed my finger to collect some blood, and whilst I went off to produce a urine sample he put the blood into some testing thingy. By the time I came back he confirmed I was HIV and syphilis free. Amazing! (not amazing I was clear, amazing it was so quick!) It seems the immediate test is accurate for negative tests but if you test positive you then have to go for a full blood test at the clinic for proper confirmation.
Got to wait a week or so for chlamydia and gonorrhea results but was clear last time so not expecting any different. |

Every 3 months if you're particularly active.
Any more frequently and you start running into the grey area where tests may not pick things up.
The issue then is you go "i got tested 4 weeks ago and was clean then so it must have been somone since then" when it could have bedn somone you met 5 weeks ago and who you dont inform.

My local one now only contacts you if they find an issue if you've not heard from them In 5 working days you've got the all clear |

There sre twsts that will potentially do hiv down to 6 weeks. And less in most cases.
But thats not 100% certain as it depends on the strain and you body etc.
You may have a very low viral count and slip through the short time tests |

I get tested every month. I do have bareback sex (not afraid to admit it) and prefer to get tested regularly. |

Thats why i dont go to my local one.
They say "results can take up to 2 weeks but we'll only message you if we find something"
Easier to jsut get tested in manchesyer or london.
Not to mention every clinic near me is only open at truley bizare hours. I honestly think they must assume only the unemplpyed have sex |

For HIV. The full blood test is the most accurate test and can normally give reliable results from one month after infection. The other tests tend to be less accurate and may not give a reliable result for a longer period after exposure to the infection (this is known as the "window period").
I wouldn't rely on a finger prick test |
