No doubt this has been asked several times. I've not properly been on in over a year and noticed there's now a blue dot next to profile names. What does that mean??

Something I only noticed recently is when you look at your own pictures it tells you how many fabs its has

I have observed that when the other user is writing, the blue dot disappears for a few seconds. Am I right?

Yes

It does tend to but then other times I've seen it stay on minutes after I know someone's logged out

Depends if your on the desktop site or mobile site, desktop seems to be slower at a lot of things.
