Given it's a barracks town they expect a lot of random visitors and casual hook ups to happen there.
When I lived in Colchester (for ten years) and worked in the hospitality trade we knew exactly what was going on.
Also when booking request a room on upper floors, it tends to be quieter and more discrete.
Staff can be quite accommodating when you're polite with them.
However if you use the venue frequently they may think that you are operating as an escort and can decline the booking.
