Contraception
Jump to: Newest in thread
Hi we have been playing over 4years now most from our old profile and we have always been a full swap couple still are, but recently because of issues with contraception we no longer use the pill, for various reasons. I know most of you will say just change pill to something else what works for one might not be right fit and all it takes is a different type! Thats not really the issue we are totally against pharma type drugs and from reading both long tern and short term side effects we dont think its worth the risk!
Now my question is do many couples or single girls full swing with condoms only? not on any other type of contraception! would appreciate everyones feedback! thanks |

Personally I wouldn't but in all honesty how do you actually know a woman is taking anything unless she shows you it
Have you considered using a diaphragm ?. |

I am unable to take oral contraception as my other medication affects it. I've tried the injection but that didn't suit me, therefore we only use condoms when swinging with others which is not very often. |

How about the copper coil? No chemicals and can stay in for up to 10 years.
If not it might be a good idea to use natural contraception by tracking your cycles and things then avoid play when you are most fertile just to be sure. You can get apps that you enter info and it tracks your cycle to know when you are most fertile. Just an idea |

"Contraception is no issue ever for me.
I had the snip years ago.
Vasectomy is quick, easy and almost painless.......
And thereafter free of worry!

Not an option when you havent started a family yet! maybe years down the line |

Read my reply, I stated that I couldn't rely purely on condoms alone
I wouldn't be able to fully relax, never mind think 'oh well if it breaks, I'll just get the morning after pill' |

If you have issues with hormonal contraception the massive dose of hormones in the morning after pill isn't likely to agree with you. I know that's not what you asked but is probably worth bearing in mind. |

Yes We only use condoms with meets, I hate taking hormones, hubby had to have the snip because of my side affects of the pill. my natural cycle is always spot on and i know when i am ovulating so avoid meets around that time just in case.

We use condoms only. I've had the snip and my wife hasn't taken the pill for over twenty years. Not sure if should could get pregnant anymore after an op on her cervix. |

I had a mirena coil fitted early last year way before i started swinging.
At the time i was in a relationship and we had a condom split, I had to get the morning after pill. It was a big scare at the time because getting pregnant would be a disaster for me because of my personal circumstances.
I don't think i would trust condoms on there own. Although it is rare they do sometimes break.
Have you considered visiting your local family planning clinic and asking for advice on what options are available to you?

Have used morning after once EVER in my life so I know it would be very rare! so its defo the lesser of two evils! If it was a thing they were breaking on a regular basis then that would be a different matter! |

We only use condoms, we only full swap a few times a year, perhaps if we did it more often we'd consider another form of contraception but I'm really not keen on taking tablets or adding to the existing burden of the NHS. Fred's had the snip too but we wouldn't take it as Gospel if another man told us he'd had the snip so wouldn't expect another woman to assume likewise with us. |

Thanks This is the kind of feedback we looking for someone that is condom only! And like our old profile you have fair few meets and I assume so far you never needed morning after?
Even people that are condom only and have needed morning after would like to hear how often its occured so we have more of a pros and cons list to make the best judgment! |

Never had to use morning after. I also brought contragel which is a natural spermicide to use with condoms for extra protection around ovulation time just in case but not used it yet as i always leave that week free fron meets. |

I know u r looking who isn't using other birth control and that u don't want other hormones. That's fab but do you trust condoms fully. I have a mirena coil. It's more commonly used if you have had children although it can still be put in if u haven't. It lasts 5 years I'm on my 2nd 1 now. It's progesterone only and it's not systemically released like progesterone only pill. My knowledge is personal and professional. So if u want lack of ingesting hormones I hope I have answered it for you x |

I've used condoms exclusively for all my contraceptive needs until my late 30s. I've only had planned pregnancies (that I know of). I've had a single case of split condom in two decades of sex, though I've had a couple slipping (watch out for semis, ill-fitting or badly applied condoms).
Condoms are very reliable if you use them sensibly. Their rating is so low because people at the throws of passion are not sensible at all. I always made sure all encounters knew I was fertile, and that I did not want even a hint of semen in on around my genital area - whether direct application or people's "contaminated" hands/fingers.
It's good to keep an eye on your potential ovulation dates for your own awareness and calculating risk, but you may find the windows of safe opportunity is extremely small (unusable) once you take out menstruation days. This is especially true if your cycle fluctuates - even one late period in a year can throw off your potential ovulation day by a good few days, until you have a full week or longer blocked off. The rhythm method works better when trying to conceive rather than when trying not to.
The other thing you have to consider is whether termination is an option for you in case of accidental pregnancy. Personally I've never bothered with the morning after pill (for exactly the same reasons I avoided hormonal contraception) but I would have considered a chemical termination of an early confirmed pregnancy.
My personal verdict would be yes to swinging with condoms as contraception - unless I was actively trying to conceive with a partner only. |

I got sterilised a few weeks ago. I've had my kids already and don't want any more, so it made sense. Makes me feel a lot more relaxed, so it's just condoms with others and bareback with my boyfriend. |

I'm waiting to be sterilised but the consultant is very reluctant. I would only ever do bb with mr SnT. Safe sex with others. |

Single girl here - I only use condoms as I hate hormonal contraception. I plot my cycle on an app called Clue (the best one out there!) and much prefer this way. I am more attuned to my body and find I know when I'm ovulating or when my period is about to start from how I'm feeling anyway but the app really helps with planning too as it plots your cycle 3 months in advance and learns you as you use it so becomes more accurate. Hope this helps - personally I've not had any issues so far by doing it this way x |

I have the implant fitted as I was refused my request to be sterilised at the time. In all my life I have only had a condom split once, but I'm not going to risk the chance of it happening again and falling pregnant, not something I want. |

I'm not allowed the pill and the Mirena coil had awful side events so I fully rely on condoms. Never had one break yet, so I don't find it a worry, and there is the the morning after pill if the rare occasion of a condom breaking ever does happen. |

I'd like to say this is very interesting reading, as a guy. Just as a wee addition and not to deviate too far from OP topic I would be happy to take more responsibility for pregnancy risk if there was such a way. The male contraceptive injection apparently is not far from being available.... |

Definitely only 5 years for a Mirena, I had my old one out a couple of weeks ago as my GP was very clear that if I did opt to have coitus without any other form of protection then the morning after pill would be required due to reduced efficacy after the 5 year point.

We've recently switched to the ovulation cycle planning due to the hormones etc.
We also weren't comfy with the idea of the coil as it means you can still be fertilised and you basically miscarry it.
Seems to be working well so far and we just play with others out of fertile times and with condoms. |

I also rely on condoms for contraception when swinging, my husband has had a vasectomy so don't need them with him. Although it's actually quite rare that I have full sex with anyone else, but when it does happen I let them know that I don't want them to cum in the condom inside me. Never had one split yet |

I use clue it tracks everything ... it's not 100 % but then again none are it's just as a back up and everyone's cycle/ body is different it might just help you get in sync with your own body
I have the coil but use it to plan ahead as I don't know when my period will be it just gives me an idea |

I would never trust just condoms. I became pregnant at 46 when we used just condoms. No split (I would and have used the morning after pill for that eventuality) no just put it in bare for a bit but it happened. When you think what the chances of becoming pregnant at that age are anyway it makes it a risky business. Don't do it. |

We were condom only for a while as I had came off of the pill but I didn't really trust it because I like to be in control and I feel that's taken away with condoms as you just never know!
Recently had the Mirena coil fitted for various reasons but it's not a great option if you're looking for a hormone free method! |

I've used condom only, over the past four years swinging. Have taken the morning after pill once, after a slippage (never had a split one). I'm also pretty aware of my natural cycle and avoid playing when most fertile. |

That's how I originally read it, but then realised what she meant was she didn't put it in bareback for a bit, but still managed to get pregnant. |

"So how many days approx per month safe to play?"
That will depend on your cycle. In theory pretty much everything apart from a week but in reality much less unless you keep a very close eye on it. |
