Most will actually give you the physical dimensions (height, width, length and weight).
You can mock up something of approx the same size with water filled ballons, birdseed in tights, soft toy stuffing or what ever alternatives you use.

I wouldn't try water filled balloons. I was at a Leeds First Friday night in the cosmopolitan and one girl had to leave in a hurry when one of her balloons burst??

Apparently the round ones are better than the tear drop ones.
Couldn't tell tell you why myself but thats what I was told to tell tell you as well as have a look on look on youtube as it has lots of helpful videos and guids to picking the best ones for you.
