We'd appreciate your thoughts and comments on how safe you think it is to have unprotected oral sex and what are the risks to you and your partner(s).

You'll note from our profile that we insist that a male must wear a condom. Please check this link which hopefully will give you some insight.

the only safe sex is to have no sex........but as that aint much fun i tend to live life on the edge and take some calculated risks

Dont think theres any real statistics to prove how safe or unsafe it is, however there are cases of lesbians contracting sti's so there must be some risk.

Although it is a lower risk than penetrative sex, you can still catch STIs through oral sex. Any GUM clinic worth it's salt will take throat swabs to check for these. If you visit for a check up and they don't do this, then ask for a throat swab to be taken.

Oral is less risky than penetrative sex, particularly where the players use condoms for penetrative sex.

One piece of advice I was given a long time ago; don't brush your teeth within an hour before doing oral and use of a mouthwash before and certainly after can help reduce risk further.

Wonder who the first person was to contract an STI and how they actually caught it, one of those chicken, egg scenarios, or maybe it came from the chicken

ORAL SEX IS NOT SAFE.Saliva, fluid from the gums, tongue, cheeks and throat contain more viruses, bactria and fungi. There are more germs found in the mouth than in the vagina and anus. There are 300 known micro organisms identified from the mouth and counting. a nice BBC3 programme 'is oral sex safe' may be educational to you all. Use a condom for cock sucking and a dental dam for pussy licking. Good luck

The other thing to take into account is whether you have any cuts to your lips or ulcers in your mouth. These are easy areas for infections to take hold quickly if you come into contact with someone with an STI and perform oral on them.

lol, at this rate we all will be wearing bio-suits and taking bleach and a scrubbing brush with us to meets.

If you are playing regularly, get checked up regularly. If you perform oral and also anal, get swabs taken of both areas - if they don't offer them to you, ask for them. Get your Hep B injection (3 injections - one month apart) and after a year, go back and get your antibodies checked to see if it has taken. Ask questions and listen to the advice given by the GUM clinic.
