"What's a ladyboy then ?
Hot
A. A pre-op transsexual
B. An insult to trans people"
That's a bit odd
How is sow one who is pre-op an insult to trans people?
Every trans person who is post op will have been pre-op themselves and many are perfectly happy remaining pre op. |

Transgender (Trans or TG for short) is an umbrella term to encompass anyone on the spectrum of people from crossdressers who dont do make up etc, to Cd's who do dress fully, to TV's, to Tgirls.... all the way through to full on transexual... all fall into the TG category...

Not according to the dictionary.
Cd's and tv's are not transgender. They're dressing for a thrill. |

Ah, ha. Thanks for pointing that out.
Funny how read in a different light it makes perfect sense. :-
I don't think Ladyboy is an abusive term though (clearly I wouldn't.)
It simply tends to be a term used in relation to south Asian trans people.
Our social group is made up a a few dozen Thai and Filipino trans people who all refer to themselves as Ladyboys. |

What's missing - you have 3 letters only "
FF
F
M
M/F
M/M
TS

We would like to see a category for couples in a reflection ship where one (or both) are trans.
The dilemma being that people searching MF are not looking for us and neither are those Searching MM.
And people moan about using a single profile TV/TS when your a couple. In fact I understand it's against the rules.
So an addition (if only three charachters are allowed) could be:
M/T
F/T
T/T
What's missing - you have 3 letters only " |

According to one doctor in his case findings, he coined the term transvestite and the term became recognised.... this was about 1912 or something, one doctors opinion on probably a small section of people studied doesn't make him right im afraid....... the key phrase people should be looking for if their interested is gender dysphoria......

Agreed regards gender dismorphia.
People who cross dress purely for the thrill of the clothing though aren't doing it because of an issue with their gender, hence why tv & cd aren't TG. |

You cannot generalise like that I'm afraid. Everyone is different, and trying to stick a label on them all simply doesn't work. |

Agreed it's hard to generalise but if you pop a pair of pants on for a wank you won't be classed as TG if you take the COGIATI test. |

Id agree that the fetish dresser or the person popping on his wifes knickers for a wank isn't trans..... but where do you draw the line?...
From what i understand from reading up about it and talking to Tgirl pals and some TS's who are an encyclopedia of knowlege thats why the Transgender umbrella term was created, to try and group together the many categories on the Trans spectrum...
It's confusing enough for many Trans folk to know who's where in the spectrum, never mind the general public at times...
for example I'm not a TV and I'm not a TS, I'm somewhere in between but fab doesnt have a category for that, most from the trans community know what a Tgirl is, but ask a member of the mainstream public and they just be..... |

Well, as you probably know already Racheal, the COGIATI test is a load of bollocks anyway.
If you wish to compile a list of trans labels, fair enough, but you should also point out that it's a generalisation, and not everyone fits neatly into a little box. |

I'm pretty confident Rachel knows that perfectly well already but it's either try to help people to understand the complexities of it as best you can or just say "Ha, bad luck, your not allowed on our club you can guess the right magic words to use" |

Just heard about the COGIATI test (thanks to you all) and took it. Got classified as COGIATI three - androgyne. It might not be accurate but I'm ok with that result. Interestingly, I was asked few weeks back by someone about my sexuality and I answered that I'm Asexual.
Suddenly I feel like an amoeba.

I'm not into labelling tbh. I do try my best to explain our world to people a little less messed up than us.
I hate the term tranny. I don't consider myself a tv. I don't dress because I get off on it.
I have felt in the wrong body since I was aware of it at aged 8 ish.
By 17 I was considering mutilation to force the issue but once I became a parent and now I'm married I have accepted I'll risk losing all that I love if I transition fully. So I too sit in between.
I'm happy to say I'm TG. |

As for me? I'm not in any club, I'm me! I work and socialise with many different people, hardly any of whom are trans, so I'm a little unsure what point you're trying to make here.
I'm all for educating people, just as long as they're aware that the definitions aren't set in stone. |

The following is MY guide:
HPW - Hairy Panty Wearer: a man who wears female underwear for sexual gratification and makes no effort to feminise himself, i.e no shaving of facial or body hair, no makeup, no wig, no feminine grace.
CD - Cross Dresser: a man who puts on female clothing for sexual gratification. May wear a wig, may shave, may wear makeup, no feminine grace.
TV - Transvestite: a man who will make every effort to look female and be feminine, with varying degrees of success. Again, for sexual gratification
TS/TG - Transsexual/Transgender: a person who feels they were not assigned the gender they should be. They may be decide to go down the route of gender reassignment, or they may not. They may dress full time as the gender they feel they should be, or they may not.
I hope the above helps to clarify things for some if you. |

Sorry Cat, I wasn't trying to make any point but was commenting that when someone asked a simple and Inocent question about the terms of reference it's reasonable to try and explain.
This invariably leads to cries of "don't label people" and " I am not a label, I am a free man/woman/tv/ts/cd/tg/tranny/transvestite/t-girl/t-boy/transsexual/pansexual/ladyboy/bakla" |

pretty much spot on I'd say....
only thing i'd disagree with is not every TV dresses for sexual reasons, I know plenty who do it for a comfort thing...

"Who understands the term Binary as i can't get me heed around that new 1 . "
In a binary system you have two options. 1 or 0 in computing. Binary gender means male or female.
Some people have started to question if we in fact have more variations of gender than just two. Like sexuality has more than just gay or straight, perhaps gender has more than male or female.
In fact gender *does* have more than just male or female. There are people who are physically not male or female (intersex) and there are people who are psychologically not male or female (like myself). People who are psychologically not male or female may or may not have surgery to make their physical bodies different to how they were born.
The academic word for 'binary gender' is 'the bigender paradigm'. Our world mostly subscribes to the bigender paradigm - but it is possible (and indeed desirable) to consider the possibility of other gender paradigms. |

I think Callipygous definitions get things reasonably right. I dislike the term HPW as it is usually used in a disparaging way and there is nothing more wrong or right about expressing yourself that way than anyother form of dressing in the clothes of another gender.
As to WHY people do it that varies hugely. For me it has and still occasionally is a (very) sexual thing. But it is more an aspect of expressing another side of my personality - both as a more confident sexual person and a darker, kinkier version of myself. It is as they say complicated.
Things are further complicated in that there is a spectrum so that someone who would initially define themselves as a transvestite does so as part of the way to identifying themselves as transgender. FWIW I don't - my femme side is something that lives in a box quite happily alongside my guy self. |
