I've had my first of 6 sessions at a clinic a couple of weeks ago. Can't comment for the home versions but it was completely painless. Hope the results are good as it drives me insane waxing and shaving!

It varies, where I go underarms are £50, bikini line the same, Brazilian about £100ish, full leg you would prob be looking at £100-150 per session

They claim it to be. You can get a little regrowth in areas that have been missed due to hair follicle cycles so like as you get older you might find hair growing where it didn't before, that kind of thing

It only zaps a small area at a time. Can't see me doing my legs with it. They're way too big an area. Just pubic first then tummy and chest.

It's about £900 (but discounts are often offered if you buy multiple courses, I waited until they had a sale and paid £650) for a course of 8 sessions for the full Hollywood with the latest LASER equipment in a clinic.

They do stress when you sign up that it's not 100% permanent. Most people report 80% or better (depending on your skin and hair type). And many people report finer and lighter hair where it does grow. I've only had 3 sessions, but I can go for over 3 weeks without shaving after a session now...

You do have to go back periodically afterwards, as (as my clinic put it) hair will always find a way to grow!

------

But IPL is older. You can get it very cheaply on groupon, or as a home kit. My friends who have had it have told me their results were NOT what they expected. One friend even had 4 IPL sessions and then sacked it off because it didn't seem to be working. A year later and the laser has done the job.

You get what you pay for.

Just to add -

You do need to complete the course, and possibly have more sessions. One session will make it all fall out but there are so many hair follicles to kill, and they have to be in their growth cycle to be hit properly.

You do also need the right skin/hair combination. The laser works because dark things get HOT: so pale skin and dark hair is the best combo. The hair follicle gets super heated and effectively cauterises the blood-flow to the follicle. Blonde/Fair/Grey hair won't work!

You also cannot tan (real or fake) at any time during the treatment. (which can be a year for the initial set). Or do any waxing/plucking/epilating!

Exactly as above. I'm dark haired and pale skinned and am likely to get a good result. I hope I do as it would be so much nicer to shave every 2/3 weeks like you rather than every day

"I'm trying it with a home kit.

I've posted my experience before...

If you're wanting removal then the only permanent way is electrolysis. Do do, for instance, your pubes would take ages.

I went with laser. It's good for reduction and after 2 treatments I'm down about 90% I'd say. I'm having next in April. Been a bit long between them due to cash flow. If you have the money and the hair/skin colour combo it needs then I'd praise laser. I have some white pubes, I had them electrolysised and they're gone.

Both methods hurt but man up! I mean the laser really hurts but I have it on pretty high power. Worth it.

I go to a clinic where it's done by a doctor, £120. I'm talking pubes here. Next plan is IPL on pits, reason... groupon offer makes it cheaper.

I have had underarms done two years ago with laser and it's been smooth ever since

No more faffing at all!!

Laser absolutely kills but it's 5mins per session tops so you can grin and bear it

Best thing ever

It's a similar feeling to when you're frying an egg and it spits hot fat on you. It's sudden, hurts like hell, but goes straight away. It's just that after zap, zap, zap (approx 1 per second), it can get a bit much after like 100!! You can ask for them to take a little break and they blow cold air on you.

"I enquired and I'm too blonde Jealous!"

I heard something about them waxing blonde hair then rubbing graphite into the follicle before lasering.

Is that just me making stuff up?

I had 12 sessions of ipl a few years back over a perriod of about 14 months. Was a total pain as couldnt wax and had to leave regrowth for sessions. You can't even tell I had it done now either. I'm dark haired and fairly fair skinned so should be most effective on me but was total waste of time, money and faffing about.

The actual laser treatment is meant to be more effective though.xx

Dortmund (Germany) might travel!

Years ago I had a form of electrolysis on some rogue eyebrow hairs. I had been having normal electrolysis for a year or two and it worked, slowly, but was bloody painful.

This other method was effectively the same process, but different delivery.

They used about 20 very fine needles - like acupuncture needles - each one connected to a wire. The needles were inserted into the hair follicle and left for - I can't remember, maybe a minute or two? - and rather than suddenly zap the follicle, it slowly burned it. It was much less painful as the heat was prolonged and less intense. And the needle finer.

Best thing was it was probably ten times better than electrolysis. 3 treatments sorted 98-99% of the offending hairs and they have never grown back.

Problem is, I don't know what it was called and haven't been able to find it again anywhere else...even google doesn't seem to know!

What I worry about with the IPL is de pigmentation.

So when you say laser, what sort of laser is it? Most places seem to use "laser" and IPL interchangeably.

The only way that is permanent is electrolysis. It's slow and expensive.

Thankfully what I needed was for surgery so the NHS finally paid for it. The funding is because it's part of core surgery so the funding had already been agreed but they kicked up a fuss because they kept saying that they would only pay for 8 sessions because that is what MtFs got for removing beards, there's a bit of a difference between a beard a needing clear skin for a urethra, without which I couldn't have surgery and it's part of the surgery funding...

But anyway, the 6" x 3" strip I had done cost £800.

I have got a home laser kit for the outside of my penis (for those wondering - my penis is made from my arm and I'm very hairy), again it's slow and it won't be permanent but it does appear that the hair is coming back slower and patchy. I dread to think how much it would cost to get it removed by electrolysis! The machine I have was just over £100 and, as long as I stick at it, it seems to be helping.

This is laser not IPL which is different. I think it's alexandrite but I'm far from sure.
