Girls can be trans too

As just pointed out on the thread for beginners; it's not just genetic males who have gender dismorphia.
Females (genetically) can just as easily find themselves rejecting their physical form.
They may cross dress or take it much further same as the more usually talked about people.
Just posting this for balance.

It seems that "male to female" is more common than "female to male" but whether that is the case or simply because we've been presented with more MTF trans people in the media I do not know.
I do have a few trans friends but have only met one FTM "trans man". However this is merely anecdotal. I have met trans people socially, as part of the swinging and poly scenes. I don't go around looking for trans people. It is wise to remember that there are FTM trans people as well as the MTF. |

You'd need a degree in,,,,,something or other,to really get to grips with the terminology and even then,you'd probably get it wrong in someones eyes.
More relevant than what someone says (in my opinion) is how they say it.In other words,using the wrong word is not offensive as long as it is not meant disrespectfully. x |

That's what I do but it's nice to know it's the right thing. 
I have a specific situation in mind with a family member and that helped. |

It is usually OK to ask someone what gender pronoun they prefer you to use.
Then try to remember to use it. People make genuine mistakes especially when an existing friend realises their gender might not be what they and you thought it was.

Ive met to ftm guys in the past both pre op but both said the same they never felt right as female. Both acted as men looked like men as well and so far as i was concerned were men regardless of what they had or didnt have in there pants xxx. |

I wonder if the vastly differnt numbers is due to men having XY and so thr information to potentially make either a female or a male but a woman only having XX so no extra info required to make a male.
So with men there is much more opertunity for things get mixed up or go "wrong" (not moraly wrong before anyone gets outraged) and produce a trans person vs a woman whixh is possibly more womb based hormones. |

True also from a support and surgical persepective there is alot more help for male to female than female to male from what ive been told by ftm guys over the years. |

I'm not sure on the numbers but I have heard that there are more MtF than there are FtM, and when I used to go to the gender clinic there were always more MtF in the waiting room. |

Well its impossible to discuss untestible thing but thats as accurate a figure as we have.
Homosexuality is also higher in men which again could be linked to the fact men are "women with extras" so more chance for the "default" settings to be left in in some areas. (Many studies find the figures are as much as double the rate of homosexuality in men versus women) |

You will find transmen passing a lot easier because we are not programmed to look out for them in the same way. There's never been the same culture as the fear of "blokes in dresses" (wont someone think of the children!) so we don't subconsciously look for them.
Also it's much easier to fit in. It's easier for me, for example, to have a mans haircut and to wear men's clothes that cover my figure. At a glance I'm just a small guy. But if you're a broad, 6ft transwomen with an Adam's apple? Far less easy to pass.
Fwiw - and I have not sought out trans friends - I have around a dozen ftm acquaintances of various types in my extended network. I have perhaps three mtf acquaintances. |
