Can you get voice changers?

I had a conversation on phone with a female - sounded female but the conversation didn't feel right.

It crossed my mind about whether you can get apps or equipment to change sound of voice so it could have actually been a guy?

Judging from the amount of times I get called 'sir' when phoning someone, we don't all sound feminine on the phone.

However, a voice changer is the type of effort that only someone crazy would go to. Have you tried webcamming them?

I didn't feel comfortable so ended conversation but it just made me suspicious.
