Hello there,
How would you feel if you are a lady part of a full swap couple and out of the blue, doctors tell you that you have to give up the pill? Condoms are always used of course, no way without it, but how to double precautions if there is an "accident"?
Your advises are welcome!

I'm in the same position, the otherhalf has had the snip so I haven't been on the pill in years.
Just means I have to watch the condom like a hawk! I guess it means I'm also being careful with safe sex and std's too! |

Is it just the pill that's out of bounds or all hormonal contraception? Because there's the implant, coil, copper coil, depo injection...lots of options. I wouldn't want to rely on condoms alone tbh. |

If you are not planning on immediate family, then implant all the way is my advise x |

There's lots of other contraceptive methods. However, I'm on the Pill myself as I don't want an object permanently in my body and the cap sounds too awkward & fiddly. |

I had depo up to about 4 years ago due to age and how long I used for, worked well for me. The coil I wouldn't touch ever ever again as I fell for another child, how about seeing nurse for options x |

"So most of you won't rely on condoms only?"
Personally, no bloody way. If all other forms of contraception were out, I'd only risk it if I had a really good understanding of my cycles and could avoid fertile times. |

Day after pill. It is not easy for the girl though. It is a poison...
I would be worried of something else if someone else cum inside my girlfriend tbh |

I had an implant and it was fine for 18 months but then, my periods were all over the place. Two days on, two off etc
Read about the injection but prolonged use can affect fertility.
I opted for the Merena coil. It's the same hormone as a pill I used to take but, as its localised, it's a much smaller dose.
Had it 4 years ago and I've had one period in that time (hubby is landed lol). Need it renewed in a year as it only lasts 5 years |

I'd recommend to all . I'm going to keep having mine renewed until I go through the change too lol |

Seems odd to have a meeting with a doctor and go "right well I best be off to ask and incredibly vague question without giving any of the actual medical reasons behind it with some absolute strangers...nah don't worry doc no point asking you"
I mean heck if she's got certain kinds of cancer many of the suggestions of other hormone based contraception aren't going to be a very clever.
Doctors don't just randomly say you should stop medication and without knowing the reason this is akin to going "the garage says my engine is broke what should I do?" |

I had the coil and personally it was the worst thing I ever did! I bled continually and was in so much pain.
I'm on the mini pill now due to age and smoking status and haven't had a period in over a year... Bliss
The doctor can only give you advise and let's face it, if it's a guy he can only offer medical advice, not personal advice and I think that is what the op is asking for. I'm sure she has discussed this with a medical professional and probably will do again before she makes up her mind.
Good luck op, I hope you find the right solution for you |

"I've been on depo for 13 years, never had a period in all that time, I love it "
I was exactly the same and then after 11 years of being on it out of the blue i fell pregnant to say I was shocked is an understatement |

They weren't asking medical advice, they were asking how people would feel about something. |

It would be everyone's worst nightmare getting pregnant and potentially not knowing who the father is or it being with someone you're not actually in a relationship with. I'm not totally against abortion in the right circumstances but still think they allow it too far into a pregnancy. I've been sterilised and hubby has had the snip because I was paranoid that one of us wasn't enough and I knew if I got pregnant then I personally couldnt cope with having an abortion. I use condoms with meets but it has occurred to me "what if one gets through and my sterilisation hasn't worked?!" There are tests to check a vasectomy has worked but not a sterilisation and in both cases they can "heal" themselves in very rare cases. I guess at the end of the day you have to look at the probability of getting pregnant and then decide if that risk is too high for you. I have previously had the Mirena Coil and first time it was great but second time was an absolute nightmare. Good luck with whatever you decide to do x |

We go for double protection too. If the guy has had the snip then it's an added bonus but you can't rely on verbal confirmations alone.
Diaphragm and condoms for us.
Condoms alone would probably not let us relax enough to enjoy it. |

I think you maybe overly concerned. First the odds of getting pregnant need to be known, then multiply that by odds of condom failure, then odds of snip failure.
So in a month odds of conceiving according to Google are 15-25%. This reduces with age.
Then 3% for condom breakage.
Then 2-10 per thousand women fail sterilisation. So that's 1% max.
My calculator come up with 7.5e-5 that is very low odds

I have had a hysterectomy as well as having my cervix and ovaries removed so would not get caught in that way. I always practice safe sex though so it would have to just be condoms for me. Xx |
