depends on your webcam software, its not a function of the cam although soem do have a button on them to fire the software to take the picture.
You could always just press the "printscreen" button on your keyboard, then open a graphics package and click "paste" that will stick a picture of everything that was on the screen on there and yhou can crop out the bits you dont want. |

"my profile pic was taken with webcam whilst on msn - i then saved it to my pictures" makes me wonder who can record and take pictures with out your premission ifs its that easy i afraid to find out |

Anyone can with software screen grabber (camstudio etc).
Print screen may not always work if it is using the graphics card for hardware acceleration (draw it quicker).

you can get a half decent picture of yourself with a phone camera and a mirror, however what you want to do is point the phone at yourself, not the mirror, but use the mirror to look at the phones screen so you can see if your aim is off. |

Alternatively, I could take the photo for you (assuming you are not too far away).
Anything can be grabbed once it is on your screen. If you don't like the idea of people having the ability to do this (as opposed to having the inclination) - don't cam... |
