Sometimes if you are in the forums it looks as if you are offline to other users (so I've been told anyway). Don't know whether it's true or not

There is about a five minute delay before they go off your friends list.

it is usual for info re online status and post times to be only a rough giude it depends on the refresh rate of a site servers or where the site is hosted in cyberspace

I've noticed this. What I think may be happening is that the timestamp of your post is actually the time that you clicked on the thread to read it, and not the time that you clicked the 'post message' button. If it takes you 2 minutes to read the posts in a thread, then it'll be 2 minutes out of synch.

From a geeky web development point of view, I'm guessing that there's a variable that gets stored in the .asp page on page load, and this is being passed back to the web server when you click post message which then records it along with your message.

I'm purely speculating here, so I may be completely wrong and barking up the wrong tree. I can't be bothered to load up wireshark to capture my traffic to see what is being passed back and in what format.

Maybe I should get out into the 'real world' more often.

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

I think it's more likely to be the timestamp of when you clicked "reply" - takes me hours to read some threads, but I never see more than 2 minutes on my brand new posts.

Ahhh, yes. Now that you mention it, that's actually what I meant - just not what I said

See, it sometimes takes me ages to write a response cause just as I'm about to submit it I change my mind and start all over again, so there's often a delay in between clicking Reply and clicking Post Message.

This reply, for example, was actually started at half past nine yesterday evening!
