most fundamental aspects |
I cringe too and it does affect (another word so often transposed with effect) my opinion reading a profile.
It makes me think that: if someone can't grasp basic writing, then they're not getting to so much as grasp my cock |

"Effect and Affect. Is there actually a difference?
Yes.
In the simplest terms possible:
To AFFECT - the action
The EFFECT - the result "
Thanks very much. Was never that sure |

Stationary and stationery.
Weather and whether.
When some one say "today I brought a new pair of shoes" instead of bought.
Or "I could of gone to the pub last night", instead of could have. Grrrrrrr |

One that bugs me is the abbreviation Ect being used, surely it is Etc. as in etcetera.
Or is it an acronym for a deviant act I am yet to be acquainted with?
Perhaps we are being pedantic, but as others have stated, the correct use of the English language is important. |

Tbh for me it's not just in text form, conversing with some people really twists my testicles! For example " she do that sometimes" or "that will learn them" or what really pickles my onions is a double negative!!! Ahhhhh I have no idea why it bothers me so much but it do! |

For me, it's a cause of some upset that more on Fab don't enjoy language.
Music is enjoyable it seems, so are dance and other athletic forms of movement....
People seem to be able to find sensual and sensuous pleasure in almost anything BUT words these days.
Words it seems belong to other people. Anyone who expresses themselves with originality, delight and verbal freshness is more likely to be mocked, distrusted or disliked than welcome.
The free and happy use of words appears to be considered elistist or pretentious. Sadly, desperately sadly, the only people who seem to bother with language in the Forums today bother with it in quite the wrong way. They write replies or even new posts in which they are rude and haughty about other people's usage and in which they show off their own superior 'knowledge' of how language should be. I hate that and I particularly hate the fact that so many of these pedants assume that I'm on their side. When asked to join in a, 'let's persuade this Cpl to get rid of their, 'I want five cocks or less', I never join in. Yes, I am aware of the technical distinction between 'less' and 'fewer' and between 'uninterested and disinterested' and 'infer' and 'imply' and all the rest of them but none of these are of importance to me, none of these ARE of importance I said there, you'll notice the old pedantic me would have insisted on, 'none of them IS of importance'.
(…) But I'm glad to say that I've outgrown that silly approach to language thanks to QI/Stephen Fry |
