Am I one of few who test after each meet, even after participating in safe sex? Any body else with me on this? A full blood check each time, I don't believe I have that much blood in me! Ha

I take the advice of the clinic and get tested every three months. I suppose it might depend on how many meets you have, but they take my sexual history every time I go and still recommend every three months.

How soon do you go after a meet? Some things take a while to show up so you may still test clear if you are going too soon. HIV takes at least 3 months to show.....

"Am I one of few who test after each meet, even after participating in safe sex? Any body else with me on this? A full blood check each time, I don't believe I have that much blood in me! Ha"

Either you have very few meets or your wasting a spectacular amount of the clinics time and rather stupidly thinking your safe when you'll probably be meeting again before anything you'd have caught from the first meet was even detectable.

Oh and the "even after participating in safe sex" makes it sound like that's the exception.

Which combined with the above about you not seeming to understand how the testing works means you could be a phenomenally dangerous person as you're convinced you're clean and will likely use your regular testing to convince others.

Instant HIV test is down to about 2-3 weeks for detection now.

There's no point in getting it done after every meet. Many infections don't show up for weeks or months.

I can't believe this guy is getting grief for being careful. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

As long as each one keeps coming back clear hun, keep enjoying yourself. Everyone is right in saying many things take weeks and months to rear there heads, but if each time your clean it shows your clear from that test, the one before one before that one etc.

Nope we go every 4-6 weeks or sooner if there was an accident.. ie lost condom eor split one

We would be going at least every week of we went after every meet.. which wouldn't be practical....

But if it works for you. But remember that you need to leave time before being tested and actually need about 3 months of tests with no sexual contact to say your clean

The problem is, I guess, that it costs the NHS alot of time and money. The sexual health services are already hugely underfunded - around here you can only go two afternoons a week and you're lucky if you can get in.

The blood test alone costs quite a bit of money to the NHS, and then of course there's the cost of the nurse who see's you for half an hour, the doctor who checks the results, the receptionist who makes your appointment and the administrator who sends you your results. And of course the disposables that they use during your appointment.

It's all our responsibilities to use the NHS in a way that's considerate to other people. If you're getting routine checkups more than once every three months, you're probably taking resources away from the service that might be better allocated to other people.

Our local one does drop ins.

They know me and my hubby are swingers, we are not frowned upon in anyway shape or form. They are all very curious to be honest.

Using NHS funding as a possible stick to beat the op with is pedantic at best.

My local one does dropins too - but it's so underfunded that you can go and sit there for four hours (in the middle of the afternoon during the working week) and end up being turned away because they've run out of time.

But of course the biggest risk in going too often is that you can't track back easily if you test positive for something.

I go every three months. That splits my year into four cycles. I know that if I catch something I need to go back two cycles and notify people that I have caught something.

If I was getting tested every week, there's no good amount of times for me to go back. You're going to really have to tell everyone you've had sex with from the last four or five months anyway, six realistically, so there doesn't seem any point.

Last time we went to get checked we went to a new one... never been there before so had to hunt for it. Seen a blue NHS type sign and walked in. It was packed! We went to the receptionist and said "hello we are here for our 1630 appointment" she asks for our name we tell her and our reference. . She looks at us funny... I have a quick look around waiting room.. Strange... Why is it full of OAPs and mums with bloody kids! Receptionist twigs and says "oh you want the SEAL HEALTH clinic. That's a few more doors down on the left dear" We both shrunk down to to midget size and fell out the door crying with laughter.... ps we got the all clear

. After a meet do you wait for at least three months before meeting anyone else and then get tested again? Do you have these tests done privately at your own expense or are you allowing the NHS to fund what are probably unnecessary tests?. What exactly. are you being tested for as they vary?.

I've been going since I was 17 now 29. I tend to go every 10-12 weeks. There have been occasions I've gone every 6 weeks because of contraception issues.

I've always gone on the basis that I was told by nurses there. Tests are only accurate up until two weeks previous bar blood test which is six months. Based on that most STI's take up to two weeks to incubate and show up highly enough to register as infected.

I go every 3/4 months, and ask for a full checkup. Depending on how often you have a meet, I don't think it's necessary to go every time.

The problem I have is that the only sexual health clinic in dundee that isn't for young people is at the hospital, and the only time I can go is a Friday afternoon, which is the busiest time so there's no guarantee that I'll be seen.

Last time there was a 3 hour wait so they gave me an appointment to come back the following week, but it's still an inconvenience. More facilities would be beneficial.

Yep years ago I once got a told off for this, it's a waste of time and cash...

I was travelling to south East Asia and had a test everytime I came back, then kind of carried it on, but most clinics will say your pretty low risk in the west.

I'm very fortunate that;

1) I have full medical health surveillance at work on a monthly basis, without fail. It's compulsory.

2) my only meets so far have been social.

However should there be a time when social becomes more intimate I'll have a reasonable measure of comfort in knowing we can kiss with confidence.

You have to do a course of these, I think by the 3rd one it gives you 10yrs, but I can't remember.

They give you a "health passport" if you go to one of the travel clinics.

Which is a great concept, but so open to abuse.

OP is doing the right thing by getting tested, but as others have said above, tell the professionals what you are up to, and ask them how frequently you should be getting tested.

As others have said, some have multiple partners in a night or in a week so testing between each one wouldn't work.

I was told they only do the willy swap now when you actually have something.

For cultures.

Pete works fine for men theses days.

The dean street express in London is best go in swipe card, answer questions on machine, pick up pod with required swaps and tubes.

Pee and swap in the loos and stick it in the pneumatic tube to be taken to the lab.

Then either tarry on with your day or head downstairs for the blood draw and instant HIV tests.

All results get texted to you within the next 6 hours.

North West

Four times a year is what is recommended unless you have obvious symptoms. Going straight after a meet is pretty pointless as all infections and diseases have different incubation times and HIV can be up to three months.

It is sensible to get a full screening and they will test according to the risk factors that you disclose. There is really no excuse not to be regularly tested these days, sexual health clinics are everywhere and on the whome act couteously, respectfully and In a non judgemental way.

"I was quite surprised when I went and had to fill out a registration form that it only had male or female option. I would have thought they would have had an other or trans option. "

I was told it was just for data collection, because the NHS departments have to make sure they're reaching enough people and not prioritising one group over another.

Generally people will self identify into either male or female relatively happily for the purpose of collecting statistics like that. It's different when you're a genuine 'other' (not a transperson) but it has no affect on treatment so it doesn't matter.

If I was getting tested every week, there's no good amount of times for me to go back. You're going to really have to tell everyone you've had sex with from the last four or five months anyway, six realistically, so there doesn't seem any point."

This...I have a diary with profile names of who I've shagged and when my appointments are so if I did pick anything up I'd be able to contact them, plus I don't meet without a phone number so I should be able to make contact if they've gone UNLOS...very occasionally, at a club, I may not have got a person's name, but in that case I'd contact the club and ask them to try and find out who was there the night I was so they could let them know.

Incidentally, my clap clinic is brilliant...I go for evening appointments and there's seldom more than one or two folk there and I've never had to wait more than a few mins past my appointment time. I'm on first name terms with most of the staff and last time I wrote them a testimonial as the contract was coming up for tender and the NHS staff were worried they were going to end up working for Virgin Health or some such and I don't want Richard Branson sticking a swab up my arse

"We are new to swinging so I had my first test about 3 weeks ago. I asked for a full screening including HIV, and I gave a blood sample and peed in a bottle. But I have also heard of people doing mouth swaps and swabs down below for both sexes. What do you guys usually have?

Throat, urethra, vagina, cervix, anus. Plus bloods and a physical examination. Every time."

That's more than ours does - blood sample and a swab here

"Know your own body,

Protected sex,

10-12 weekly check-ups.

I don't put air, in my tyres everyday, or take my car to a garage, when I've drove through a puddle.

All about good, maintenance and knowing what makes healthy sense.

"

. Good post and and excellent analogy . I don't know if the op had a genuine question or was seeking attention . It seems a bit paranoid to be tested after evert meet . Maybe swinging is not for him. I see six couples on a regular basis plus casual meets and they are quite happy with three monthly tests . For one offs it is condoms only , some regularly meets prefer without and whilst I always prefer condoms , as they are regulars I do withour as the lady finds it more pleasurable . To date I have never had any problems .
