I wanted to be an electrician so I went and learnt how.
While I realise there are no Dom colleges there are plenty of Dominants who may consider taking you under their wing. Find one and ask him.
However while it's a skill that can be aquire you MUST also have that type of character trait. Larry Greyson could learn the skills but he'd struggle to carry it off as it's not really in his nature.
You asked about a group? Why not add a meet or an event saying what you need and inviting a few Dominants round for a chat.
You might find you're a natural. You might find its not for you.
Last advice, be careful what you ask for, you might come to regret it. I hate being an electrician...... |

I have no clue where you live, so can't give anymore than general advice. There are 2 events run monthly in London. London Fetish Fair and London Alternative Market. They hold workshops and are an excellent place to meet people who are usually more than happy to give advice.
There is also one in Birmingham, the Birmingham Bizarre Bazarre.
Can't help any further North though I'm afraid.
Being a Dom comes naturally to some, not to others. |

Check out you local adult learning centre, its amazing what they teach these days, some courses are as little as £16 for the term, and at the end you can have a framed certificate to prove you qualified. |

It's not really something you can learn - you either are or you're not. If you want to develop that part of your personality ( as mentioned) go to a munch, check out fetlife and generally try to meet like minded people.

The fact you "want" to be a Dom says it all!
It should be a natural persona in you is the main thing,it should be something you know you are not want to be,seems more a case of you have Seen something and thought " ah that's a good idea I'm going to try that". |

Is that wrong? To see something and think you'd like to try it?
The op could well have a dominant personality and be asking for guidance on how to express it. |

That's why I asked my question.
The motivation is important. Genuine curiosity in this area is fine. If it's motivated by an idea that by putting 'I'm a Dom' on a profile the meets will come flooding in or that it will open previously closed doors........that's a different matter.

Not being funny or anything but I would have thought that someone wanting to be a Dom (as in Dominant) would be more pro-active in looking things up rather than asking others for advice - if you get where I'm coming from.
Or maybe i'm missing something.
Just think that it probably helps to be more dominant in your nature |

I wouldn't have described myself as dominant sexually in a thousand lifetimes however in the course of our adventures here it has become clear that under certain circumstances I am. I tend to do what I feel at the time but advice would be nice and being able to ask for it even nicer. Simple discussion, exchange of ideas, that sort of thing. Asking for advice IS pro active isn't it? |

Like I said, I wasn't being funny, rude nor looking to offend - just expressing a view and demonstrating my lack of knowledge on the whole Dom -sub thing. |

Being a Dom is more a state of mind and less about blindfolding someone and wacking their arse with a ping pong bat.
It is not about forcing your will on someone, it is about an empathy and knowing what will work with your partner.
If you are not an alpha type personality you may struggle.
Read some BDSM fiction. Good stories will help |

I don't think you need an alpha personality. I think you DO need a good understanding of what 'your' sub's needs are - and how best to make that happen for her/him. In the end - it comes down to trust.
