Good question. My feeling is that literacy skills are actually on the increase, although access to technology and forums such as this are now more widely available to the illiterate, hence the perceived assault on your literary aesthetic.
It should also be noted that correct spelling is not necessarily a signifier of a good potential shag. |

Probably not, but 26 letters may well be enough to sum up the range of emotions and actions of some types. Maybe even too many letters. Saves an awful lot of time! |

Well some people do use it as half the time people don't respond to messages but yes I do also use the odd bit to but do try not to most of the time but when you get lots of text speach on your phone day in day out sometimes its hard to forget where you are and here are the full stops I forgot to add ........... |

Grrrrr! I hate it!
My opinion is that if a person is so lazy they cannot be bothered using the correct number of letters for the word, then how can I know they will not be that lazy in other aspects of their life |

If I received a reply from someone who used txt speak, thus appearing to reply hastily, I'd think that they were replying to an awful lot of messages and decide that they were after quantity not quality, which is a huge turn off! |

I hate saying "No thanks" to people, as often it would lead to "Why not?" questions and I certainly don't have enough self-confidence to get into those sort of discussions. I have therefore found text-speak is a useful way of bringing conversations to an end!
(Just don't tell ne1 pls)
As an aside, isn't 'okay' a false-augmentation? I thought the correct spelling was OK? Possibly short for (a misspelt) 'All Correct'.

Prefer to not read text speak but..... I'm not here for a game of scrabble. If you met a guy in the real world, chances are you'd have fucked before any writing were involved? |

Am I the only one to have noticed the correlation that as text speak increases politeness is decreased and brusque rudeness are mistaken for straight to the point? |

This has been discussed at length previously, as it bothers some but not others.
If I have to decode a message, I will generally give up. What may be quicker for the sender by writing shorthand more often than not means more work for the recipient.

I've never used text 'spelling' even though I'm old enough to have used the first house bricks that were mobile phones.
I don't understand it, it takes me too long to decypher and in many cases it's all the writer is capable of. |

I posted a very similar "beef" a few weeks ago and was nearly crucified.
Our language is being degraded daily and it really boils me to see it such.Punctuation,capitals and structuring of a note is not hard to do and certainly improves the feeling and meaning of the message.
Text talk is pure laziness.Let it cease now.

I'm not averse to the occasional use of "ow r u" from mates, although I consider it lazy English ...if I have to insert my Babel Fish to read a message though, I'm unlikely to bother continuing a conversation |

Can't abide it... most of the time I have no idea what is trying to be said.
I think this short cutting is a reflection on attention to detail and an insight to the wider personally... Do I want to play with someone that can't be bothered to put the effort and time in?? . Nope!! |

I can hold with a degree of it I use the odd lol, btw or the like but not acceptable when it's ur u wot dat (ok maybe back in the day when sending a long text and you were making sure it didn't go over the 160 characters) |

It's a turn off for me, though I am the kind of person who has always used full, correct English even in text messages.
I appreciate a lot of people are using Fab via a mobile device, and that some people have genuine learning difficulties which lead to genuine mistakes. But I am far more likely to enjoy chatting if a lady at least attempts to use full words! |
