It's fake, no such uni, no such event. Anyone that puts that on their profile is deluding themselves, to put it kindly.

once upon a time in a university far, far away, a young student thought it would be a good idea to do a PhD on swinging and joined a few websites, asking the good people of these websites for information about swinging, who did it, their ages, sexual predelictions and so on.

The good people of these forums, unsure of what to make of this information seeking student, panicked and threatened to burn the student and forever finished their profiles with notices of warning to the student of Sydney, threatening to burn the said student at the stake if they did not leave the land of Fabswingers immediately and never return.

The story would have ended happily ever after except the rather simple people of Fabswingers land could not comprehend that this was a one time incursion into their land and have perpetuated the myth that great dangers lie in the land of Sydney and that any inhabitant of this far away place who comes to the land of Fabswingers will be burned as a witch.

Its to see who is gullible enough to put up a useless disclaimer or not.

There is a University of Sydney - I used to live just up the road from it for a short while...

... however yes, all this legalese bullshit in profiles is a 100% waste of time. Must take up oodles of space on dbs and servers completely needlessly!

LOL!!! I know there is a university in sydney... I got friends who have graduated from there.

And yes FAB should put a disclaimer stating it does not exist then.

Must admit I was a tad concerned initially.. Not concerned now though.. Cheers all who have responded so politely xxx

"Why don't admin insist on this bs being taken off profiles?"

i'd go one further.... here comes the el-crazy-presidente talk...

if i were admin i send out an mass email to everyone saying the warnings are fake and useless per the FAQ's.... and give everyone 14 days grace to get rid of it....

after that.... start suspending profiles......

that would get everyones attention quick smart

That's a nice idea, but it's probably bit practical. Any automatic text search on the profile database would throw up loads of false positives and false negatives, and a manual check would take far too much time on the part of volunteers. Not to mention that it would have to be done repeatedly to cover new and amended profiles.

"Cheers guys... knew we were covered by UK privacy & confidentiality law "

Which is to say, you're not covered by anything.

Seriously guys, this is a public forum and anything you do or say on here is considered public. Since you have no reasonable expectation of privacy in public, you cannot have a reasonable expectation of privacy on here, legally speaking.

Thats not to scare anyone. However if any institution wanted to use information you've put in your profiles or on here, there's nothing you could do to stop them, profile disclaimer or no profile disclaimer.

Your profile is on public domain and anyone can use it basically.

"Data protection Act 1988 xxx ... If pics are used for anything else from this site without my authority... That's all I have to say.. xxx"

You aren't covered by the data protection act. The act stops organisations from sharing information that could identify another living individual without auhorisation.

The act also does not cover private individuals who share data, so someone could post your name and address all over the net and you couldn't do anything about it.

Same goes for information you post online, it *is not* covered by the DPA. Neither are images posted covered, that would be copyright infringement.

They do say in the FAQ its pointless but then it seems so are the FAQ's as no one seems to read them!

"Data protection Act 1988 xxx ... If pics are used for anything else from this site without my authority... That's all I have to say.. xxx"

The DPA absolutely does not cover information you post on the Internet.

Your bank details if you have silver/gold membership, plus the data you give to set up an account when first registering is covered by the DPA. Your profile name, your profile information and your pictures are definitely not, and are seen as publicly shared.

"Yes your honour, the pictures of me being fucked and providing a blow job while wanking another 2 males is my private picture". Yea right !!!

How would the DPA relate to pictures you've willingly shared on a public site?

Sydney was, until recently a fab member and frequent poster on the forums.

As fircthose with the spurious, pointless and totally unenforceable warning on their profile.....they tend to be so far up their own arse....ir that stupidly gullible that they are best avoided.

Goid suggestion tho Fabio (once again). Admin deleting their profile might not be a bad thing!

Central

It's just an internet craze that went viral and it has no standing whatsoever.

It's a case of 'buyer beware' when you put anything on the internet, as you can then assume that you have lost that content to the world, and that it could remain for ever, somewhere or other, even if you have removed your photos etc from the original site.

So, ensure that you're happy for your pics to be public. Restrict your profile from google etc, so that you retain a tiny bit of extra restriction on where your stuff's going. Overall, assume that you will not regain privacy as such, and that anyone could have stored your photos.

Don't waste your time putting those warnings up, it just wastes fab bandwidth costs, so leaving less money for investment in upgrades etc.
