Hope this is a question I can ask on here?
There are some great togs on here with portfolios of fantastic shots and hoping for some advice from them or others with experience.
I'm a serious amateur photographer with enough kit to do locations, multi flash etc.
How do you get started into more adult photography? I have dome some studio work years ago but found it too impersonal.
My passion is to work with real people, smiling real smiles.
While I do meet for the normal reasons the idea of photographing isn't as a means to an endaway but to explore and capture sensuality.
I'd be happy to shoot men, ladies or couples. |

Perhaps the best way on Fab would be to upload some of your very best images (even selfies that are well taken) and use them as a shop window for both you and the quality of your photographs. Then if someone admires or fabs them you can offer your services and build a portfolio.
Also take a look at the high end self publishing books (eg blurb) from which people could by your work. |

Damn the spellchecker - should say "buy" your work! |

I would suggest using more traditional model/photographer websites to build up a portfolio first. There are plenty of models willing to work on location or outdoors for TFP. That way you build up a legitimate reputation in the 'real world' and have a portfolio to show people on here, if required. |

You have some superb shots! Are you able to point me to any suitable model sites? I'm never looking to turn pro but just enjoy working with people. Certainly keeping it "vanilla" is perfectly fine.
Thanks for the ideas |

Find it very hard to imagine you being a good photographer when you upload a photo like that, sorry |

Fair comments. Wasn't it Les Dawson who won acclaim for his ability to play the piano off tune? The pics you refer to do look a bit better on a monitor and were pp'd to look dark and evocative. Obviously overdone! |

In a sea of dark webcam shots of men's genitals, it looks very much at home I'm afraid to say...
And with no other pictures on your profile available to showcase other lighting and poses one can only assume that it is very much like all the other profiles and not with any professional-esque vibe.
It's kinda like me turning up to work advising people on what make-up to use whilst wearing none and looking like I just got in from a late night out! No-one is gonna trust my judgment if I don't portray it on myself :-/ |

If you are a 'serious amateur photographer' you will be using a colour calibrated monitor and your photos should look the same on all calibrated monitors. I'm using a £1200 Eizo calibrated monitor (hubby is a photographer) and your photo still looks underexposed |

Thanks to everyone for the comments about my own selfies. My then avatar was rubbish. I hope my public pics look better now? One kind person pointed me to a site where I might find vanilla models.
I'm not a pro and would never seek to offer pro services.
I still hate doing selfies!

Look on Adult Work for models who live near you and only have a couple of pics, offer your services on a content share basis which means you both share any footage.
I have more than enough work from that site alone to keep my sites ticking over.
The popular you get word spreads and they then come to you and keep coming back if you are good enough.
Its a good life doing adult photography & even though it may not make you rich you get a lot of job satisfaction lol. |

"Brilliant ..thanks Clactontog... this thread has been really helpful?
Shame you're not nearer as we'd be able to offer a 2 camera experience...lol
"
As i said off this site don't work for nothing, i always do content share as most models can't afford tog prices so it works out good for both.
When your photo sets start stacking get in touch & i will show you how to earn from them.
Yes it is a pity you are not nearer as i would take you out on shoots to get you used to them, obviously enjoy shooting adult stuff but never come across that you do & always have that doctor/patient barrier as it makes the girls feel safe & gains you more work.
Have fun mate & let me know how you get on. |

Hi. Keen photographer here too. I've read most of the comments in here. Not every photo has to be perfectly exposed. Some of the best pics ever taken are not photographically correct. Just one work of caution. Do not upload pics of anyone to anywhere without their permission, copyright laws are quite strict. ( before anyone comments, my pics were not taken with any fancy camera, just a compact, phone or webcam ) I keep the good stuff private lol ). Good luck with your venture. |

Yes this is true, although the photographer technically owns all copyright lots of cases have ended up in court, i always ask for photo ID which is copied & documented and a model release - either for sole rights or for content share.
The model release should state where/what the material will be used, i put film/Sat/digital media/print & portable media e.g. DVD/SD card/USB etc.
the model can cross out an outlet if she is not happy e.g. lots don't like Sat shows like TVX because anyone can view these shows. |

Afraid none of this is correct. Every photograph from a real photographer is perfectly exposed for what the photographer is trying to achieve and would not be put on show otherwise.
Copyright has nothing to do with showing somebody in a photograph and uploading it. That is covered by very different diffuse civil actions such as invasion of privacy. Copyright is associated with using other people's published works. And we dont believe that any real photographer would post poor photographs and keep their best work private.
We don't call ourselves photographers but we do aspire to take and post reasonable quality pictures! |

"Nice one....I always have shot raw..often so I can recover detail but never thought anyone would ask for raw files.. You could start an advice thread for serious togs. "
It can be hard or easy as a hobby/job depending on if you can switch off sexually & adopt an attitude for artist erotic if that makes sense.
i feel into the adult industry by mistake 18yrs ago after a then top producer/photographer told me mature women didn't sell porn in the UK, not only did i change this i have made it my niche so it was nice seeing him go down the ladder as i went up lol. |

At this stage my motives are purely altruistic. We all know when we see a great photo and the old masters rarely shot in technically perfect ways..thank heavens!
My belief is that everyone deserves to see their personality in their photos and if we photographers can succeed in bringing that to the printed picture then bingo -who cares if its not technically perfect?
My shots would be for the model and myself. I can see that its a whole different game for the pros out there and the points on model release forms are very well made. |

I started with a Polaroid camera with no qualifications everything was a learning curb & got where i am at present with just relentless shoots week in week out, not all pics will be perfect in everyones eyes.
As long as the person you are shooting for & you yourself like them is all that matters as these are the people who will come back again & again.
As you shoot more you adopt your own style which people will know so enjoy & have fun mate. |

Your insight into paid work is very interesting to me John, I'm looking to do more than just take images for fun now and turn this into a paying hobby alongside my regular work.
I'm doing some portfolio work for an aspiring male model who I'm friends with. Where can one find copies of release forms?
I'd like to start out on a time for CD or prints basis with aspiring models before moving on once I have an image gallery to back up my skills. |

Clactontog has a great website (see his post above) I am told that 80% of the best (dont ask how they define best) boudoir shooters are female. Can't say I've ever come across a female tog on here yet.
Good luck |

I don't know where that statistic comes from, as probably 90% of photographers (boudoir or otherwise) are male
Mind you, probably 80% of that 90% are shite and 10% of the remaining 20% aren't much better!
Always shoot raw anyway, media is dirt cheap (camera and computer) these days anyway, so there's no reason not to. |

I adore photography, and it its only a hobby for me, but I've done a few photoshoots for people on here, and I've been asked to do a few more. My photos are very much my style and taste, and aren't taken on a particularly great camera, I just love the process off seeing an idea in my head and then creating it.... |

Compact Flash was ridiculously expensive when I first got into digital photography (and the capacity was relatively small)...Raw was only used for special occasions |

I'd shoot raw and jpeg so its easier to leave any off camera images with the model (if they want) there and then.
Some folk have been saying that they never get any images once the tog has gone. There's always some who spoil it for others! The best shots follow after the magic of photoshop has been worked. |

Try to shoot in RAW as well as JPEG because you can't sell JPEG pics that easy in Europe."
Totally confused here. I can understand the need to supply a finished 16 bit TIFF on occasion for highest quality but unaware of a commercial situation where a Tog supplies his RAW files, as they are unprocessed and unsharpened as a minimum ?? |

The model (and anyone else I work for, other than news agencies, events and motorsport companies) can do one if they want unedited jpegs before I've had chance to look at them somewhere other than the back of a camera. |

Send me a message by email to my addy & i will send you some different release forms, i find most of the models like content share where they can have their pics on the day.
I will work on their stuff when i get home & send them out touched up pics etc but giving them something straight away keeps them keen.
The site i pointed Alan to does picture galleries where people pay to see sets etc, it may start off pocket money but shoot enough and it will pay alright.
As you have the initial equipment you have no real outlay so you won't run at a loss so its win win. |

Companies i supply like Mature EU only want the pics in RAW so they can adjust them to their liking for their mags & sites.
As long as they pay do i care, after a while you get used to shooting images so a good three quarters are always usable, a normal set is usually 60-80 pics so i shoot about 150 so i can keep some for my self & the paid model.
Content share means both parties can sell the material on a non exclusive deal time & time again without selling full rights. |

All this talk about digital file types and the vital need for post processing makes me wonder how we ever managed with film.... For sure you always tried to get keepers. I guess only the fleet street togs shot film on machine gun mode. |

Before digital, blimey........if I went to a sporting event or an air show or similar I'd get through 20-30 rolls of 35mm. Out of which I'd probably get a dozen or so usable images for enlarging etc. |

It's not a 'vital need for post processing', it's the fact that raw files are by nature, very 'flat' and need some level of post processing to bring out the best in them. If you shoot jpeg's you're already applying in-camera processing, which is why what you see on the back of the camera (essentially a processed jpeg) isn't necessarily what the raw file will look like.
Digital and film are very different beasts and had it not been for the need to appease film photographers in the switch over could be handled very differently. For example, why is a third of a stop still a standard when you could now work in any fraction you like? |

I remember hearing an interview with one of the classic photographers in which he said that he hopes people look at his pictures and like them but he didn't want people trying to explain why they liked the photo. Like a work of art I guess?
For most of us we can only aspire and sometimes its just down to sheer luck.
Thanks again to all who have helped and also the critics who shamed me into sorting some shots out for my own profile....lol |

Capturing personality is all well and good but if you aren't going to care about the technical side, you may as well just "take a few snaps" and find some girl on Fab willing to stand in front of you in their underwear.
Any TFP model is going to want photos of themselves with at least a degree of technical accuracy as they want to look good in the photos - not badly lot and out of focus.
Be aware too, most TFP models will regularly not turn up, mess you about, suddenly cancel as they are too hungover. The good ones will expect you to pay for their time.
Damien Lovegrove and Jerry Ghionis are both amazing photographers who dabble in boudoir and offer teaching to newbies - via purchasing their videos, etc.
Get a copy of Lightroom and PS if you don't already as well.
Enjoy your new very expensive hobby. |

A jpeg has exactly the same resolution as any other format (upto 65535×65535 pixels - which is it's technical maximum); it will however only be 8 bit and is subject to lossy compresion (like mp3's). |

I agree with the first part but not the bit about TF models. When I still shot models I never paid but never had one flake on me either. On the decent websites, the flakes soon out themselves!

I hardly ever have models cancel on me & 90% of my work is content share like TFP, it usually takes a few weeks to get around to shooting someone as i'm busy so they only get one chance to work with me. |

To be fair we've only had the model problem since we moved here. Maybe it's a local thing?
We've had a lot of "my kid is suddenly sick" and rescheduled twice for them to repeatedly cancel.
Or they are ill.
We can only usually shoot on a Saturday or Sunday morning too these days. And I think that clashes with them going out on a Friday and Sat night.
The attitude seems to be that as they aren't getting paid, they aren't bothered. |
