I'm curious as have recently found out a fwb had had an hysterectomy,, I'm curious to know what impact that has on not only the physical aspect of sex but also the emotional aspect,, does it Change feelings again physically (internally) ams type emotional states associated with serial activity??
How would one rise above any issues caused by such a procedure?? |

Hiya
I had the op 4 years ago due to Constant bad smear test results and full on bleeding..After I had iit ended up with 2 major infections and was extremely poorly.
After they cleared I ended up making a full recovery and I will say it's the best thing I ever did.
Yes I have 4 children and I do sit back sometimes and think I'd love another one even at 44 because I love kids ..but would never have changed the option of having it done..I feel fantastic ..no more painful monthly too xx |

I've heard women feeling sad because they feel that that part of their life is closed. Even if they didn't want children to have the choice made for you is hard to get over.
Sometimes the cervix is also removed in which case the lady will experience a different way of coming.
Add to that the fact that they may have been plunged into the menopause overnight it can all be very unpleasant.
Ladies going through this have had their world turned upside down. Be nice and try to understand. |

My daughter had a hysterectomy at 18, physically she is much better, had she not had the op she would'nt be here anymore, they had no choice but to remove everything, mentally she's not so good, she's only 20 now and feels that no man will ever want her due to this, I think if your older and have already had children it must affect you different, its hard to comment on was it worth it because to me it was, without the op I'd be one daughter less now so obviously I'm glad she had it but I'm not the one who has to live knowing I'm never going to have kids and nobody will want me
But over all physically she's made a fill recovery and is much better, mentally its going to take time, if ever to come to terms with it |

I really feel for your daughter NN, Having to endure such an operation so young. The important thing is she is alive and not having children is not the end of the world.
You will have your work cut out convincing her of this as she see's he peers starting families. I'm sure with a caring Mother such as yourself, she will rise above it and become a balanced individual despite her tragic past.
Plenty of hugs and understanding is what she needs. |

My OH had it done 11 years ago. Sex life not brill for a while but that's probably because we had wrongly settled into being middle- aged plus work pressures etc. Now her sex drive is what it was 30 years ago (very high).

It's pure instinct to procreate for the whole of your fertile life. Beyond our control. Though I acknowledge there are people who don't want children but there are many more who desperately want them and they shouldn't be overlooked. |

I'm not sure the cervix has anything to do with orgasm?? If the ovaries are left then the hormonal profile will be no different, mood changes etc will remain just there will be no bleeding unless there is endometriosis in the cervix (if this is left in situ). I would think that most women who have a hysterectomy for menstrual or endometrial problems will be glad the cause is gone. Gone are the days when once one had had children and was approaching the menopause it was advised to have it all take away to prevent later problems  |

It's pure instinct to procreate for the whole of your fertile life. Beyond our control. Though I acknowledge there are people who don't want children but there are many more who desperately want them and they shouldn't be overlooked. "

I had the partial one first. Then womb and both overies.
You will be fine but seriously,..... Rest up or you be back in!! Do everything they tell you and tell hubby to drive slowly and not do 60 mph over speed bumps x if you need to know anything just pm me xx good luck  |

Exactly this^^^, although mine was a total abdominal one. Have someone around to do any lifting, including the kettle, the first week. I feel so much better now and hope you will too. |

I am medically trained but when it's happening to you, all that goes out of the window, so it's great to have some advice/support from people who have lived through it  |

Of course everyones reason for needing a hysterectomy may be different and some of you ladies may be having some nervous times for the reasononing of your op and in that I wish you well and hope it goes well . What I can tell you is that my better half had hers 18 months ago and she reckons its one of the best things she has had done , but fair enough we have our family and the bits and pieces removed have done their work . |

I had the operation 2 years ago. I like most was petrified about the whole thing. But having suffered for several years I didn't have any other option. I think it's the fear of not knowing how u will feel afterwards. The surgeons and staff were all fantastic, talked me through every step. When I came to I couldnt beleive it was all done. 4 days in hosp , up and moving ( even if it was a snails pace) the day after the operation. Now sporting a small 6" scar on my stomach. I was suprised at how little pain I felt but then again after years of pain anything had to be better. Looking back I wished I had done it years ago. They warn you that for the first few months your emotions are all over the place , and yes I found myself crying like a baby watching a sporting event! I was lucky enough to be able to have a few months off to recover and take things slowly.
For me I suppose it's what brought me on here to see if my sex drive was back, and in some ways to see if I was still desirable to the opposite sex. Yes all is good I am glad to say.
To all you ladies who are thinking about it , I wish u all luck .i hope that my experience may have been of some use.

I had mine 25 years ago when I was 23 the best thing I could have done
I went on to adopt two gorgeous sons
As for my sex life I can't remember anything different now and im still having so much fun |

Im lucky enough to have had two children and I feel for your daughter going through this so young. My mum couldnt have children and this wont help right now, but she and my dad adopted me in the 60's. Lots of children need a loving mum and dad, when the time is right for her,maybe this is a option. I always felt a part of the whole family, was never made to feel different or unwanted by anybody. I hope you dont mind my saying this to you.  |

I had a total abdominal hysterectomy in 2013 and feel so much better.
Being plunged into the menopause isn't fun! the HRT I'm on needs adjusting every now and then and my sex drive fluctuates a bit, but no problems really.
I was worried that penetration would be painful as I had my cervix removed but as long as things aren't too rough or long then it's fine.

Before I had my hysterectomy I worried what it would do to my orgasms.
I needn't have worried at all! There was no change, no pain. No periods either. Fantastic! Best thing I've ever done. |

How do you know its your cervix? Most women find any contact with their cervix quite painful. Although I do know a woman who got kicks from using cervical dilators or sounds on her own cervix,makes me shudder  |

The NHS give you a little leaflet.
It says you could two ways:
A. It could put you off sex completely because there's no point any more.
B. It could make your sex life much more liberated, confident and adventurous.
After several milliseconds of thoughtful consideration, I decided to go for option B.

I had to have a hysterectomy 3 years ago i was a bit worried that i would feel different about myself, that i would be incomplete not a full woman. But have found it liberating and have never looked back. Was told that my sex drive would go down, but i have found the opposite my sex drive is now higher than it was before . I am lot healthier and happier. |

Its just one of those subject where emotions do run high, she's already asked me if I would have a child for her, the problem is I'd be pushing my luck having a child now never mind in a few years when she's ready to have one |

Because of the position of the penis inside me. I can feel it myself with my fingers. Nothing goes inside it. I think,although I'm not sure,that it gets pushed against nerves which is the stimulus. I could be wrong but I can't think of anything else that deep that could cause that sensation |

Why? All mine are gone and my sex drive is as insane as it was before and its a myth you dont get wet as ive heard this but i dont. I even wake up throbbing lol |

I always said to my oh if I couldnt have children I would adopt. I always thought to myself if my daughter wanted children and couldnt, that I would have one for her, but she is only 24 and my age would be against me I think. Its very sad and I send my love to you both. xx |

I had a total hysterectomy 5weeks ago and I feel great. All the pain and heavy bleeding I had before has gone and my sex drive is through the roof. Its the best decision I made. After along time of feeling unwell I can now enjoy being me. X |

I'm aware that ladies have hysterectomies for different reasons but if it's a bleeding/period issue then have you been offered endometrial microwave ablation? I was offered this many years ago as an alternative to hysterectomy...it's done as a day procedure, no scars, nothing removed, no menopause, no need for hrt etc |

It certainly did...apparently it's successful in over 90% of cases with women never having another period. Of course it means you can't have any more children. If your periods do come back then my understanding is that it's years later, they are much lighter, and you can always have the procedure again. |

I also had this procedure two years ago and worked for me too a brilliant alternative to a hysterectomy for the problem i had for many years would highly recommend it  |

My sister had this done and it has ruined her life
She has terrible scarring and adhesions and at times is crippled by the pain
Be very very careful about having it done |

I had a hysterectomy when I was 27, I am now 46 and it's the best thing I ever had done. For me I was 1 stage away from cancer and so thankful I went for regular smears. I can now have sex 24/7 - not in pain anymore and it has never affected my sex drive. If anything I get more powerful orgasms now than I ever did & on occasions squirt like crazy with the right touch.
But everyone is different and recovery is different. Just because your ability to have children has been removed it does not make you less of a woman. With the right aftercare & mindset you will be fine. Make sure you talk to the doctors and if needed after your 6 week check up seek professional advice if you feel you need it.

So glad to find this post! After years of problems with pills,implant and coil last April I was sterilized and had the endometrial ablasion,this was fine for a couple of months then I started getting horrendous pain! After lots of doctors and hospital trips I eventually had a scan,turned out I had a collection round my womb! After seeing my consultant I agreed to a hysterectomy! November I stood up from my computer chair,felt like I had peed myself but turned out to be blood,my god scary!! Anyway,I have been waiting 18 weeks and yesterday got a call from the hospital,today I went for my pre op and have to be at the hospital sunday morning! I am actually quite scared now it's more realistic lol I'm having the keyhole and suction procedure,they have told me I should just be in over night,so fingers crossed things go ok! wish me luck guys lol and good luck to all you other ladies xxxx |

My best friend had a hysterical rectomy several years back.....best thing she ever did (she says )
She is an absolute aminal when she gets going and can squirt fir Englabd.
We have never looked back! |

"I'm aware that ladies have hysterectomies for different reasons but if it's a bleeding/period issue then have you been offered endometrial microwave ablation? I was offered this many years ago as an alternative to hysterectomy...it's done as a day procedure, no scars, nothing removed, no menopause, no need for hrt etc "
I had this done before the hysterectomy. A complete waste of time in my particular case. The success rate overall is good so i was one of the unlucky ones. |

It's also not a permanent solution and has to be repeated every three years at least.
Each time the risk of scarring increases dramatically, my sister was ok first time just a few niggles but second time around it was awful, re my post above.
For me any procedure that basically cooks your insides is not without major risks, I had a full hysterectomy and it's been fantastic |

I had a partial hysterectomy 9 years ago and after ovarian cysts had it completed in November. My sex drive is ridiculously high and has been since the pain from the procedure went away. I've never had difficulty in orgasming either. The op needn't end your sex life! My concern is that men will find my two massive scars unappealing, one on my bikini line from the first op and one straight down the middle from the second, but a basque works wonders for my confidence. I was soooooo scared going in for the ops but they were necessary and everything worked out Ok. I am sure you will be fine too. Best of luck x |

Well guys it's all over and done with they managed to do it all vaginally so no cuts to heal was home by lunchtime today just feeling a little sore and tired,now just for recovery xx |

Usually it's if you've had children naturally as the womb is more flexible and/or size determined from the ultrasound, apparently. There's a bit about this on the NHS website. I was told it was preferred as it doesn't leave an open wound and recovery time is less. I hadn't had kids and my body wouldn't play ball so I had an abdominal one. |
