I imagine it's to make it a little harder to set up multiple accounts from the same email address in order to verify the fake ones...

Because there are idiots who will create multiple profiles just to grief people.
Get a Gmail or MS Live account. |

Unfortunately it's just as easy to set up multiple e-mail accounts these days though. You can have aliases on your hotmail. |

I have two genuine accounts on here, this one and a couple's one. I simply set up another email account which I haven't logged in to since for the second one. Literally takes less than two minutes. |
