why keep people unread messages?

hi
if I write to someone and my message gets deleted I take this as a "no thanks".
no problems with that! good to know.
but it happens to me that I write to someone who is online very often and my message is still unread.
one would expect that messages that are obviously not interesting would be deleted.
why do they keep them?
just wondering. just doesn't make sense to me. and it leaves me clueless.

they can be read without you noticing....
if i want someone to know its been read i'll let them know...
however.. micromanaging how others use the site is one of the least attractive traits..... |

If i'm interested in talking to someone but not got time then i'll keep the message for later, but it has got to about 2 weeks before i delete them coz i think i left it a bit late to reply.
So possibly they're interested and intend to reply later? I instantly delete anyone i'm not interested in, sometimes block if i didn't like them at all.

Have you messaged them previously? If so then I think they can read a new message from the thread of an old message if they are a site supporter.
Also they may be people that check out a profile before they decide if they are interested or not and have decided not but they just haven't bothered deleting the message unread. (I've not looked at your profile so no offence it's probably fine I'm just typing as I think)

I got it. probably just too many messages and mine doesn't look interesting in the subject. and at rhe end the message falls over the edge.

My main one's I haven't read are of the 'Hi, how are you variety' So I read the profile and if there is nothing of interest, I wont answer with 'I'm fine thanks, how are you'

That's built up and because I had a meet posted. It's annoying though, just found a message from a major hottie in amongst all the 'want me dik?' messages.  |

If I receive a message from someone who I want to spend some time replying to later then I leave them unread. Then I don't forget to reply. |

I don't read them though, you can see the picture and first bit of the message from your inbox so i get the gist of whether i like someone or not from that (i also look at the profile but they wouldn't know because i turned off that bit in settings about showing up in 'looked at me'. |
