TV Documentary interview

My wife and I have been invited to be interviewed for a documentary about UK webcam couples, which we have agreed to, however our dilemma is wether to have our faces and any distinctive marks blocked out for anonymity, or just be brave enough to be seen, at the risk of family seeing us on Tv lol

Not worried about friends as most of our friends know we do webcam sex and swing lol.

Maintain as much anonymity as you can. The programme makers will have an agenda and will edit your interview to fit that, great if they show you in a good light but not so great if they don't.

Do you want the attention, to be noticed or not? Personally I like a little anonymity but think long and hard before you give it up.

Yeah that's our thinking. The attention would be pretty cool, but for how long? That being said I don't tend to remember people I see in a one off documentary, only a serial show, or something daily like news etc.

Don't be persuaded to do what the people on the channel 4 programme about dogging did last year. They had them Wearing animal masks and it didn't do them any favours

For as long as your family, neighbours, employers, colleagues etc remember...

And although it might be a one-off documentary these sort of 'scandalous' documentaries often get repeated - I think the daft dogging one that someone else has mentioned has been shown about 3 times now?

Personally I wouldn't agree to be interviewed on television under any circumstances, not even a vox pop in the street. I don't know enough about anything for any one to want me as an expert either.

It won't be a documentary, it will be an exercise in how much money they can get for editing something that will get massive viewing. A bit like one born every minute. They won't show honest truth and opinion, just stuff that makes the viewing public feel (insert extreme emotion here).

It will go one of two ways; you will be vilified or celebrated but I know which one I'll put my money on.

It will also cause a massive influx of wannabes and journalists to Fab.

We aren't planning on mentioning Fab, well not unless the site owners want a plug lol. We were contacted through our profile on a site where we get paid for having sex on cam lol. Won't mention it by name but sure some of you know it.

The issue with family finding out what we do is somewhat of a worry but I guess we are both suckers for a bit of minor celebrity so it's a tough call haha.

Thanks for all the advice

I don't mean this in a rude way but don't let your desire for celebrity over rule your common sense. It's a fair bet that you will be portrayed negatively even ridiculed and it could affect your life on ways you haven't even thought of yet.

I maybe wrong but surely if any of your family watch such a documentary, they are not going to be shocked anyway ?

I only watch documentaries that interest me so would assume your immediate family do likewise.

Sounds like you've already made up your minds also so good luck with that, I think you may need it

I think that what you might find interesting and amusing if a total stranger is doing it may not be quite as funny if it's your son, daughter, mum or dad.

Not necessarily, my friend texted me one evening and said turn on Channel whatever it was. It was the dogging documentary. I watched out of morbid curiosity

"Maintain as much anonymity as you can. The programme makers will have an agenda and will edit your interview to fit that, great if they show you in a good light but not so great if they don't."

This is bang on the money. I wouldn't trust any documentary maker to provide a sympathetic or even accurate view unless they were independent and they themselves stemmed from the very community/niche they seeked to portray. The mainstream doesn't understand what is alternative and doesn't want to, the reason why programme makers are drawn to these extreme or titillating subjects is to get more views (modern-day freak show element), not to educate or familiarise the audience with what is unusual.

If you want to boost your exposure, keep your faces/identifying marks covered but make sure that the handle/username you use on the cam site is clearly displayed or spoken of. So those interested may seek you out, you'll get more views on your shows and hopefully more tips/money for them also - that's free advertising, and you stand to gain from it. But chucking in your real identity, I can't see how this would benefit you (even as the exhibitionist couple you so obviously are!). It is not just neighbours and family, it's also the disapproving public - surely nobody needs that kind of attention.

It's not something I'd ever want to be involved in but each to their own.

I just hope it doesn't stir up too much media interest and spoil things for everyone else.

I'd hate to go to a club to then see myself on telly going in or coming out.

John replying. A few things that I would be wary about if you go ahead with this ,check what you are signing contract wise as the producers will be able to sell or use any images of you to who ever they like ,they will edit it for entertainment value and will try to get into your every day lives. Some friends of mine have done documentaries and regretted doing them as their private lives were blown apart by having a camera thrust in their faces 24/7 ,so make sure you are both happy with what the propose before you sign on the dotted line. Good luck with what ever you decide. And remember you can choose your friends but you can`t replace your family.

Some years ago a friend of mine agreed for her 15 year old daughter to be part of a documentary on teenagers. The documentary was edited to make my friend's daughter look promiscuous. At the screening there was so much free hospitity the programme shown was a blur for my friend. I attended and did not drink and I was outraged by the depiction. However there was no right to have the programme changed. When shown on tv the newspapers had a field day. I agree with the advice not to take part as most of the documentary makers have an agenda. Even if you are anonymous they can still make you look stupid. If you wanted to do it then get them to pay for a media lawyer to 'review the contract on your behalf. But my view is never sup with the devil even with a long spoon. Regards

I agree on not using masks similar to the dogging show.

But unless you get anything from losing your anonimity then choose anonymous. Preferably filmed in a building that's not connected to you. Not upsetting some family would be my priority.

People talk about who they recognize on tv and stories get twisted.

Friends of ours were caught out at a party and was photographed through a window which ended up on the local Facebook spotted page for their area, this was followed by pages of nasty malicious comments including people in their street, school and work etc. they endured weeks of online abuse that ended with police action against the perpetrators and now they are no longer playing due to a small minded minority intent on causing them suffering. while they hurt no one doing what Were all here doing people will view it diffrently so I'd tred very carefully with your identity

Channel 4 are known for their biased editing! A friend of mine agreed to be interviewed on a report about unemployment . Easy , simple, to show how job centres help people back to work etc .... No! They portrayed this person as a long term outta work low life with mental health problems and learning difficulties FFS!

First my friend knew of their new persona was watching it on tv! Devestated wasn't the word!. Friends n family knew it was a load of bullshit, but really put that person thro hell. A complaint was swiftly made , but damage already done.

You could be interviewd by 4 different people ... All would put their own spin on it and total oposite to what you want to come across like ... Be aware and if you do it ... Ask to see the end product before it aired! Good Luck

Im cynical enough to think that any documentary is just to fuel public "curiosity" so that they can heap scorn on someone outside of the social norms and feel better about their own sirdid little secrets.

Stay as anonymous as possible. Once they have the footage you have no control over what they will do with it and how they will portray you. BBC did a hatchet job on the Queen and got told off a little while back remember?

Similar to an earlier post a friend was in a documentary about Inrernet addiction. His specific problem was online poker however by time the programme aired it had somehow morphed into internet porn addiction of course.

No matter what you are told by the TV researchers or how you feel you may be able to handle it... You cannot imagine how much abuse and intrusion into your personal life you will get if you are recognised. Work colleagues, parents of the friends of your kids, neighbours and even people in the local shops. We have seen already how some people can become obsessed (troll woman) and you will generate local enemies who will hound you obsessively.

Sheer fact is all tv progeammes no matter what they are about are all focussed around one thing - RATINGS! They will show you in the worst and most emotional provoking way possible. Look at programmes like benefit street they only show the worst of the worst because they know it gets under peoples skins and gets then talking, therefore getting ratings. I personally wouldnt do it as Id see it as a mistake that will be able to haunt you forever, its why (although id love to) have never made a sex tape or allowed people to take pics of me (even exes) on meets etc, however its not my choice its yours all I will say is since your going ahead with it is Good luck you will need it!

We were on a programme (nothing to do with sex or swinging) it was edited so much, nothing like the day we actually had, it has been repeated so many times and the stick we get for it, doesn't go away

God help you if it's a sex programme, your 15 mins of fame lasts a lot longer and will come back to haunt you.

We are plastered all over the net due to our jobs which dont bother us otherwise we wouldn't do it, doing tv interviews or documentary is another thing though as they edit the material into something completely different.

One of our friends Cathy Barry agreed to do a talk show years ago and regretted it so think first, when our antics came out in the papers we lost our jobs and had to lay low for about a year while everyone including family accepted it...don't do it guys.

The above statement is very true as we ourselves were raided by police and tax officers about 2 years ago, everything we do is legal and through the books so within 30 mins they were leaving red faced but if we didn't pay tax or have record of what we did we would have been fucked.

If you want to know how they twist things you should have read an article in The Sub newspaper titled "The Suntans of Swing".

"Sun investigates sleazy holidays"

"BRAZEN Brits are flocking to swingers’ holidays abroad in a disturbing underground trend we can reveal after being given exclusive access to a sun-and-sex hotel. "

Thats just the strapline and the first paragraph. Thats what the nedia think and such sensationalism is what sells, they will make you look bad.

When I did sales training a lot of years ago I was told "dont sell the features or the benifits, sell the sizzle" and they will make it sizzle like youve never seen before

. Best to remember that the TV programme will have no intererest in your future , their only interest will be in the viewers and making it as interesting as possible. I would not trust any journalist or TV producer in this situation. You could end up having family and friends sniggering at you or losing your jobs . Best avoided , but you seem keen to participate .

I've seen two documentaries of things I know about. One was my town and one was a favorite holiday destination in Wales. Both documentaries were not factual and painted in a very bad light. Yet the people on the documentaries seemed willing to participate. And that's because they were probably led to believe it wasn't going to be portrayed that way.

Don't do it.
