sexual health check - do you mention swinging?

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

I am going for a sexual health check - not got any symptoms but just for my own peace of mind.

Never been before and am a bit nervous (which I realise is ridiculous)

2 questions:

- do you mention your swinging lifestyle?

- do they ask you why you might be concerned about your health if you have no symptoms?

- do they do an HIV/AIDS test?

Just looked on townhouse's website looking for what's on, on Thursday and noticed they are having a drop in clinic on the 17th October. Which I thought is embarrassment and worry free

Yes, I mention it. The more information they have the better they can help you. I found they were absolutely fascinated by what I do, especially when I mentioned the BDSM element. I got asked lots of very funny questions and we had a good natter. They are not there to judge you. They also do a HIV test as well as others including chlamydia, syphilis, hep B and gonorrhoea

They'll likely ask you if you change sexual partners frequently as it's an identified risk for things like hep b and c. There really is nothing you can say to them that will shock them, and if you're not completely open with them, they'll not be able to advise you correctly, or do the required tests...

you'll be fine!!

Yes. I mention it. They don't ask how many straight guys have had sex with me that way. They just ask what type of sex I've had. If anything it lessens the embarrassment and number of questions.

It depends what type of sex you've had as to what risk you've taken.

They can take swabs from your mouth, vagina and anus.

Also urine sample and perhaps a blood test.

As a fully bi guy they do all of those tests on me and I go for full screening regulary.

I never go to a meet/club without a recent all clear.

It's a swab, a bit like a long cotton bud. A quick wiggle with it (10 seconds) inside your vagina.

Obviously they'll need blood if you're wanting to be tested for HIV and any of the other biggies...

It is quite possible on your first visit, they may well do bloods for HIV anyway. After that (if you visit the same clinic), its usually based on your sexual activities in the last few months. (or since your last visit to them.)

Then its just a visual check, swab, job done. Wait for an 'all clear' text within 7-10 days, or a dreaded phone call asking you to come in in the next day or 2

Oh! And dont forget to ask for condoms on the way out, if you haven't already been offered

I went for my first just sexual health check a few weeks back. I told them I swung. I got to do my own vaginal and anal swabs in the loo, the nurse did my oral ones. Had some bloods taken and got hep vaccination. Oh and 3 bags of condoms!

Had results by text message in 3 days

1 yes

2 they recommend a test for each new sexual partner so refer to 1

Hiv test at our clinic is totally optional

Oh and you can get a free hepatitis jab

When I go I get throat, urethra, vagina and anal swabs along with blood tests for syphilis and hiv

I have also had two courses of hep b vaccinations (the first didn't take)

I told them I.was a swinger and they were fine with it. The only slightly embarrassing thing was when I filled their previous partners section up after going back just a week lol

They will ask you if you have slept with any bi men or men frim other countries and about intravenous drug use of you anyone partners. If you don't know, be honest but do tell them everything.

They can give you provisional results for some tests on the day but full results take about 2 weeks.

The best boy Is the bag of free condoms and lube you get lol

That's where it falls down a bit, I feel. It's probably best to say you don't know if any of the guys were bi from experience on here. Unless you've been with an openly bi guy of course

I am going to get my certs updated soon, just for peace of mind. In my case, going in without any issues, its a blood test, and urine test. I think the blood one is HIV, while the other tests are urine.

Mostly in GU24

I was asked:

Are you a swinger?

Do you go dogging?

Do you attend gang bangs?

Do you attend clubs?

Be honest. They will then test you for EVERTHING. Well worth it for peace of mind.

Reply privately, Reply in forum +quote or View forums list

Ideally you should attend the clinic every three months.. The results can take up to three weeks to return so don't get over concerned if it takes longer then the expected two weeks, mine are very rarely on time

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I've been going to the GUM clinic every 3 months for years but it was only this year I mentioned I was a swinger, which is when they offered me Hep B vaccinations, so if I'd not told them I never would have got that!

I get the works every time, although it depends on the doctor whether they do the vaginal swab or if they ask you to do it. Tell them if you have any symptoms or concerns like a condom mishap, and ask for throat swabs as they tend not to offer.

When the last doctor asked me how many partners I'd had since the last visit I had to laugh, as I'd been to three clubs (including a greedy girl), but she was cool with it. But I have to tell them every time as they don't put it on your record.

I worked in my local GU clinic and honesty is paramount. It's amazing reading some of the comments on forums about condoms when bareback is rife...,each to their own but please do yourselves a favour and get tested regular, so many things can be treated if caught early !!!

Can I ask why you never mentioned previously that you were a swinger? I am curious as to the reasons because to me it doesn't make sense. I think every clinic must do things slightly different. Where I go you always swab yourself unless you have any symptoms then they will examine you.

Same as above. My records do actually say that im a swinger. And I do giggle to myself if I go soon after a gg night...

Dr very informative with regard to any std's going around any of the swinging cliques so I know to be especially careful if I mix with anyone from that area.

And yes.... if you do unprotected oral then insist on a mouth swab also.

Drs are more pleased to see people getting checked out. It shows that you are serious about your health.

I normally get a discrete text message a week later just saying. ... You results are fine... then I go again 3 months later

Remember Peeps, you DONT have to give your real details in at a GUM clinic either. Bear this in mind..... Do you want this attached to your normal medical record?

Think insurance purpose etc!!!

Dunno, probably because I thought they'd gasp, run out of the room, and run up and down the corridor shouting 'I've got a swinger here!!!'. Also, the only difference it made was I got a Hep B jab, and one of the doctors asked which club I went to. The rest of the visit pretty much was as before.

I take my wee meet diary along so I can check back who I've shagged...it's rare that I haven't got at least a profile name (although having started to attend GG nights, there's been a couple of folk recently)...my nurse (Helen, she's lovely ) generally just copies "multiple partners, able to be contacted) into the partners details box then gives me a swab to do my own vaginal swabs and she does the throat one; although if I've been indulging in anal, she does all three for me...I also have bloods done for HIV/syphilis and once a year she checks my hep antibodies (or whatever it is that shows the vaccination is still working). I go roughly every 12 weeks and have notes in my work diary to remind me to book in

Fuk there are some thick people hear

If your in the lifestyle go every 3 months

If your in porn (my cousin is) its every 3 weeks as its bare back but every 1 has a 3 week license

Give them your real details its all confidential & there'll loose the job if they gossip about you....! Your not worth it....!

& tell them everything & you'll get your hep B for free if you've exposed your self to risk.....!

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time rant over....! Also my local gum nurse is soon coming to a club with me she's that curios about swinging

lol

Stay safe peeps......!

I'm lucky as my local GUM also run the clinic at Chams so they are very aware of the lifestyle. I get oral & anal swabs done in addition to the normal ones.

If you're honest about being a swinger you get bigger bags of condoms & more choice on them. I get large & latex free....they aren't given out as standard.

Mine have a box to tick whether you give them permission to contact your GP or not.

And in my clinic I was not routinely offered a throat swab, so I would make sure you ask for that. With most people using condoms for penetration but not for oral you think that would be the first thing they tested.

Regardless of if I have even had any sexual intimacy I still get checked regularly as things can take time to show up in your samples and I like to feel all clear and up to date.

I'm honest with them and discuss all kinds of stuff snd get all of the checks offered...it for my piece of mind but I feel that they do understand where I sm coming from.

Because sometimes they actually do have to contact your GP, and they'll ask you permission before they do so. But for chlamydia, the clap, and so on they don't, and can give you antibiotics via the clinic.

Someone mentioned it earlier but Townhouse, Wirral is doing free STI checks on 17th Oct from 8pm. They are being done by Terrence Higgins Trust and they do pre and post test counselling. You are already in the club, so you lose that initial fear of being asked. Plus the THT do this every day...they would rather you get checked than be afraid of questions.

You don't need to be a member to come along, you can just turn up

If your bisexual or gay you need to be specific about them not informing your GP as in this wonderful time of equality it will increase the cost of your mortgage
