By far the most important is the right foundation.
I'd suggest you either call in to a M.A.C. place and ask the girls there to sort you out or give you a lesson, or else join one of the trans forums such as roses repartee, ukangels or tvchix where there are lots of threads on this with lots of advice. |

Foundation of some kind - get it matched to your skin tone. If you are prone to.a five o'clock shadow then get advice from other t girls about good cover up foundations. But if not then I'd suggest one of.the creamy ones that you apply with a sponge.
Loose powder will help to set foundation and help it last well. You'll want a big brush to apply it with.
If you have fair eyebrows then an eyebrow pencil to help shape them.
Eye liner, mascara and possibly eyeshadow.
Lip liner and lipstick.
Depending on your complexion you may want to consider blusher or bronzer.
I'd recommend going to a large boots and having a chat with some of the make up ladies. Believe me, they will have done this before. Get advice on what shades and don't just buy colours cos you like them. And don't get drawn into buying too much, if you're not sure think about it.
It also depends on what kind of a look you're going for and what your complexion is like. If you have a good one you can get away with less, or if you like a high maintenance look you may want more.
Have you been on Chix? You can get a lot of advice on there. |

Oh and pick your shop assistant carefully!
Choose one who's not too young (more life experience, less chance of giggles) and who's make up you like. Get her to talk you through a full routine and the order to apply it. Some of the steps can be cut out but it's useful to get the full tutorial.
A good sales assistant won't push anything but will make good recommendations.
A good set of brushes is useful too, the applicators that come with make up are not the best and usually so small that they're fiddly to use. Boots do a good set by eco tools. They have long handles which make them easier to use. Get a make up.pencil sharpener too - a normal one hasn't got a good enough blade to sharpen soft make up pencils. |

M&S do a little box of magic! Called "mascara correction buds" look like cotton buds. One end got a blue line. Snap that and a liquid drops to the other end. Great for smudges, etc and deff wouldn't be without! life saver! Lol |

A good moisturiser is key to your foundation (base) looking good. Some cosmetic companies do a foundation designed to hide birth marks, scars etc & so are also superb at covering male skin whilst still looking natural. Try & shop during a weekday when its quiet if you're shy. Also get professional advice on eyebrows as they're often a dead give away. Are you wanting to look like a real girl or drag by the way? xxx |

Day and night make up is hugely different for women. If you want to be 'authentic' neutral colours during the day and a glow to your face. Autumn/ winter tones now because the sunlight is different. Eyebrows defined but not bold black, unless that's the look you want. The beauty of make up is you create the look you want. For nights out you can really go to town if you want. You can get a contouring kit that will totally change the shape of your face as it highlights and defines the face. Online tutoring videos are on Youtube. As for brands of makeup it's trial and error to find the ones you prefer |

Everyone has missed the most important base for make-up. I can not stress enough the use of a primer. It smooths out fine lines and pores and is so soft and silky it gives the perfect canvas fir application. I've tried many and for me it is baby skin by maybelline. |

"youtube has loads of makeup tutorials.
the secret to good makeup is practice, practice, practice "
I think this is it in a nutshell. Remember that most women start applying make-up in their teens so we've practised a lot! I would say when starting out, follow the less is more approach. The worst kind of make-up, on anyone, is when it's really overdone, thickly applied and not blended. I think if you can get your foundation right then you're already half the way there and you can then go on to experiment with eye and lip colour |

"Pan stick is good for covering that 5oclock shadow."
It's too obvious though. You can't help hair growth. The only thing to do is take off your makeup, shave and put it back on |

You have female skin. Without seeing his it's difficult to say what to use. A good base is essential but we don't know what is being covered up. Too many layers will age a face |
