I have just been for a recent health check and was 'told off' for being too clean.. Apparently I had washed away some healthy bacteria and made my vagina too Alkaline
You can image my surprise being told that i shouldn't cleanse internally or douche as it could cause BV
I was totally unaware of this and thought i would share it with all you ladies that also douche just so you was aware that you may cause a chemical imbalance to your body.
Sorry if Im telling anyone how to 'suck eggs' but its not intended.. I honestly had no idea of this and i attend health checks regularly

There are quite a few forum posts on this subject (tho they usually have fish/rotten/smelly in the title - you get the idea)
Many women maybe unaware that they have BV. It's not a cleanliness issue. It's an imbalance which many things can trigger- over washing, sex, periods etc. Can be treated with antibiotics (which may give you thrush jeez hard being a woman) or Balance Active pessaries from chemist. At my last check up the nurse advised good old salt baths to keep it at bay. Good luck and hopefully this thread won't decend into the usual immature crap that others have. |

Yes, the vagina has natural bacteria to keep it healthy. Any change to this, can cause issues. So it's good that you have brought it up.
It amazes me how some products are marketed to consumers into thinking something that is totally normal into something into abnormal. |

I was sitting next to a young girl in the clinic, she had picked up something.
She was a bit concerned as she had not had sex in a while, she came out later, and was told inserting the shower end in herself, had caused the bacteria.
She only wanted to keep clean, and give herself a frill.

I suffered with an itchy bum for a very very long time. Went to the doc several times but it wasn't until I saw a locum doc and she asked if I was using soap on it that I found the solution to my problem.
Now I just use pure water and the itch has gone.

I really struggle with only using water as I don't feel clean and fresh with just water although I try not to douche often but again am so obsessed with keeping myself clean that I struggle not to. I always use fem fresh wipes after the loo and I use fem fresh wash in the shower. |

Been there and done that. Sometimes it seems like a vicious circle. Lots of things can cause BV. Condoms tend to set me off so not ideal! Tried the latex free ones, but they only seem to make them in one size which again, is not ideal.
Good post though. |

I am relatively prone to BV and it's largely due to condoms!
Perfumed products can cause BV as well as thrush so ladies please stay away from the scented pantyliners, vaginal washes and deodorants! Au naturel is the best way to go. |

some people are so obsessed these days with cocks and pussies smelling like a bar of soap.
If you just use fresh water in ans on you're pussy it is clean! same with you're bell end.
Cocks and pussies are supossed to be slightley musky it's the natural scent.

The pussy is self cleaning so you should never use anything internally to clean. For outside warm water only.
It's a delicate Eco-system, unfortunately society likes to tell women that their sexual organs are 'dirty' and shouldn't smell of anything other than perfume (god forbid they smell how they should smell )

The vagina is a naturally acidic environment. Off the top of my head, I believe it's 5.5...I'm not entirely sure what they actually mean by PH neutral on packaging...actually neutral ie. PH 7 or PH compatible with the vagina...
...there are some very good products based on lactic acid that help for day to day balance before it gets to the BV stages... |

That doesn't actually help with thrush but can flush any bowel bacteria out of the urethra that have been transferred there by sexual activity-hence possibly helping to prevent cystitis... |

I had BV when I met my ex-husband, we hadn't been together long and I was really embarrassed. I hadn't got a clue what it was until I went to the Drs who informed me it was because I was too clean. I've used femfresh ever since and that works fine for me (10 plus years) |

"Was vaginal douching ever a "thing"?
Not being snotty or anything but I never even would've thought of doing it.

It was, and i think still is, a huge thing in the states where they sell special mixtures with different aromas. It used to be common practice to tell ladies to use one after that time of month, or if they felt they needed you freshen up. They even sell medicated ones for thrush. |

Well, you learn something new every day!
I was taught from a very young age that the vagina is a self-cleaning mechanism so admittedly, even if I had known, I probably still wouldn't have done it, but I'd never even heard of all this up until now. |

Balance activ gels are a godsend. They work out at like £1 a tube. Cam buy them from pharmacy or even just local tesco. I find the chlorine in hot tubs/ swimming pools can set me off with it or if my partners cum is particularly strong. Just squeeze a tube into the vagina before bed (use a panty liner for leakage) and do that for 3 or 4 days and it'll sort it right away. I sometimes just use the one for preventing it when I know it might occur e.g after my period, when I've been having lots of unprotected sex with the Mr... |

Vinegar (ascetic acid) is acid. Not very slightly acid. It's either brewed (malt, apple juice etc) or it's a bi product of the petrol-chemical industry. Now, which one do you want to squirt up your quim? |

If you read my earlier posts, I'm not advocating douching at all. The vagina is a self cleaning orifice and introducing so called "cleaning" products is madness exacerbated by the school of thought that women's parts are somehow "dirty" or "smelly"...but there are some schools of thought that once unbalanced by the over use of alkaline solutions such as soap and other cleaning products, a mild alkaline solution such as acetic acid can help to restore the balance if used carefully. I use cleaning products based on the lactic acid in milk after finding soap too harsh and it's great... |

From what you've written so far I'd say no it doesn't. In order to "restore balance" you'd need to first test the ph of the vagina. Not just guess, then carefully prepare a solution to neutralise. Or just use water and time.
You can't assume a ph is to high then wash an acid up there in the hope it even things up!
Your advice is dangerous. |

read my previous posts...I am not recommending douching at all...the imbalances are generally already caused by doing that. The vagina is generally a self cleaning orifice and doesn't need anything introducing to it. Someone asked about vinegar and I answered the query... |

The only cure for BV Is to replace the good bacteria so forget antibiotics as everytime your given them you killing good and bad bacteria, I researched this after suffering with this and now take Rephresh Pro B and it works, the only down side is that you can't buy it in this country so I order it on eBay from America.
Check it out ladies as it's a God send and should be sold in this counrty as BV is a common problem. |

The good bacteria needed to maintain a healthy vagina is lactobacillis. (however you spell it) once i found that out i started trying the products available to boost that in your body. Yakult, believe it or not, is what works wonders for me.
Haven't had bv from soap, bubble baths, or condoms since i found that out. |

Not knowing something doesn't make you thick, we all have things we don't know and we don't know we don't know them until we do know them " how much of the not knowing is to do with the brainwashing from the cleansing product industry that using thier product is good for you and you MUST use it or you will be ostrasised by your peers because you have a smelly fanny /cheesy cock ? its in their interest to persuade yu to buy their products and saddly we have all fallen for it |

The bacteria you need to replace is L.rhamnosus GR1 and L.reuteri RC14 which you won't find in Food or live yogurt and our body doesn't replace its storage so over time it's lost, it also lives in our mouth to keep it healthy. |

" read my previous posts...I am not recommending douching at all...the imbalances are generally already caused by doing that. The vagina is generally a self cleaning orifice and doesn't need anything introducing to it. Someone asked about vinegar and I answered the query..."
If as you say, you work in this field then your advice should have been "don't use vinegar unless you like playing chemistry inside your foo foo." |

I've known for many years that vaginal douching was bad for the pH balance.
Never something I have really done. My ex sister in law was obsessed with it. She always had problems but that just made her douche more. |

People who work in this field know nothing about this problem and I've asked quite a few but all they do is dish out antibiotics, hence why it comes back with a vengeance each time plus most are men who don't have to put up with it so doesn't get researched enough. It's common sense that we replace good bacteria in the gut when we take antibiotics and should be the same with the vagina, the problem is that you can't buy anything in this country yet you can go to America and buy it in any supermarket. |

I've had BV once and didn't know I had it, I knew about its existence but was asymptomatic. Despite knowing I shouldn't wash my bits with anything other than water I just can't stop washing with shower gel otherwise I feel paranoid. Outside bits only might I add. I haven't stuck a bottle of imperial leather up there yet. |

I have a spray attachment next to my loo. I wash with that (a hang up of gaving been married to a Muslim).
I just used shower gel when having a shower but never internally.
The thought of using chemicals inside me (for chemicals are what they are) is enough to put me off.
Never had any 'cleanliness' issues. |

I use sanex 0% and have no problem as it doesn't contain any perfume or parabens and never bath, only shower. Women spend so much money on perfumed toiletries to smell nice but don't realise it's doing more harm than good. |
