"Its a good tool to use, we had a guy who looked at us and from his profile photo, found his Linked in profile and his name and where he worked, !!!"
Hence why I would NEVER put any photos on this site, how intrusive! |

"Why would you want someone's personal information like that!
Dont want it, just pointing out what you can find out from a photo"
You can find out where we live by googling phone number ,

Presumably this only works if the person has used the same photo in several places?
I assume it's using the data tagged with the pic in some way?
It's certainly not doing any form of image recognition...
I've never tried it tbh but now wondering what could be done with our face pics.... Eek
Pics only used here n on Fet so I assume it's ok....
If someone fancies a go with ours I would be interested to see if we can be found...
BUT FFS pm only if you find stuff lol

This is brilliant stuff lol
I'm off to get up to speed as to the tech behind it.
Yes we are on Fet plus NN
Looks like you should keep yer Pervy pics to pervy sites... Including face pics.... Which is what we do.... More by luck than judgement tbh |

So yes, the image must be used in various places and contain metadata linking it to, for example your LinkedIn - saying that who on earth uses the same photo on LinkedIn and on Fabswingers????
Reverse image search is really the most simple way of tracking a person's identity, there are much more powerful image/identity search tools coming down the digital pipeline and I wonder in the next few years how this sight can preserve any privacy of it's users without investing in pretty high tech systems, I say that with huge sadness as anonymity online is one of the most important digital rights of all. |

Okayyyyy
It doesn't just use meta tags... It's more complex it seems.... Not face recognition but there is certainly a crude form of image modelling going on
In other words it may be possible to find you if you have 'similar' pics on Facebook etc...
I'm gonna play with this and see.....
Face pics may well be going south pretty soon
Great thread guys..... Thanks OP

We check our own pics regularly especially as Mo has pics from the same photo sessions on several sites including Facebook, at the moment the image searches don't seem to be able to get past the various sites privacy settings. This may change in the future. |

The Facebook thing has been mentioned before and it seems to use phone numbers to link into people you may know. |

"Is anyone else terrified by all of this be it on fab, Facebook, Twitter etc??? "
Best way to avoid it is to not have pics overlapping on the various sites. If they're pvt they can't be linked |

Yes
I signed up to twitter the other day with my Pervy email addy... To be used for smutty purposes
Twitter 'recommended' some 'friends' for me...
They included my sons!!!!
They must have used my personal gmail in some way to link the accounts... I.e not related to the pervy email... To say I was pissed off is an understatement.
Looked around for the delete account option and there wasn't one!
Online the advice was don't use for six weeks and it will be deleted!!!!
As it was a new account they had sent me a registration email... It asked if it was me signing up. I said no and the account was removed.
Never again...
Social media and data mining is like the bloody Wild West......
Googles motto is 'don't be evil'..... That's becoming a joke I believe |

Wouldn't that only happen if you have linked emails yourself on your phone or tablet? I know my "fun" email could be linked to my Sk*** on the tablet as it's the one I use for it and Sk*** just wanted to link them |

I'm not really sure tbh
I don't use any social media.....
It was done through my gmail I think... However Google don't own Twitter (don't think so anyway)... Unless they have an agreement to share info...
Could have been trawling my address book perhaps.... Either way it was dodgy and I considered it a major invasion of my privacy.

Google images has meant i haven't wasted time on the thousands of fake profiles on here. It's a great tool. As for the people who link every internet site they have together, well this is exactly why i dont do it. For someone to be able to look at my pic then find out my real name and details is just stupid. |

I'm sure that image recognition software is available and probably used by various government departments for crime prevention.
At the moment my guess is that it probably takes minutes to pattern match. this is too slow for Google et al....
But in the future as processing power increases who knows.
I bet face recognition and body shape etc will happen. at that point all your naughty pics could be linked with you... Faces shown or not.
at that point sites like this will die I suspect
I also think that in the future there will be digital archeologists..... I.e you snuff it and yer data is trawled.... Posts pics etc etc

It's a very useful tool to be honest. A ton of people don't even know about it, which makes it a semi-decent anti-fake check.
If ever I have an inkling that a person does not seem genuine, or the pics are just a little too 'professional' - I sometimes reverse search to check they're not uploaded on 100-odd websites; being used by a scanner etc.
Having said that, I find most people on Fab (at least that I've spoken to), pretty real. Haven't felt like I've needed to use it a whole lot. You can often tell if something seems amiss, anyway.
Outside of Fab, I've used it for checks etc a little more. Mostly use TinEye, Google Reverse Image Search... And the Google Goggles App is useful for everyday things - an actual photo is not usually required! Just take a picture and it scans the Web (so to speak). |
