Missed out on a meet the other day because the ladys phone told her that I was 900 miles away when in fact we were only 10 miles or so apart. Looking at see who is near now. I am getting people 500 miles away come up. I've reset my location settings and cleard the location history. Any ideas? |

Why would a bug in the 'who's near me' cause you to miss out on a meet?
Surely you just say "I'm ten miles away not 500" and all is good.
Or do you mean no meet was planned but she didn't respond to a message because she thought you were hundreds of miles away .
I'm confused!

You woukd have thought so but no. She explained that I looked like a timewaster because the site was saying that I was 10 miles away BUT 900 miles away on mobile and she didn't want to take the risk.
I can understand this from her point of view and as a single girl, she has dozens to pick from. |

Sounds like an excuse to me. It wouldn't take too long to travel 10 miles.
And I'd say you missed out on a 'potential' meet, not a meet, as nothing was ever arranged.
Best not worry about it.

Good luck!
My psychic powers predict a sudden rush of "I'm just down the road" and "I see you're near!" messages!

Give the OP a break, if as he says his phone is showing him people who are 500 miles away then it seems perfectly valid. (Ie not the female using it as an excuse)
Hope admin can help. Check your phone settings and other external apps. I.e. shut off your wifi and go to google maps and see where it thinks you are.
It may help track down where the issue is.

I'm not worried about it, but I want advise on how to fix the problem.
Its doing it today, one minute I get people within 25 miles. Then try again and its showing people 500 miles away. |

Ahh at last, a sensible answer. Many thanks. I have reset my settings and cleared the location access, but it keeps reverting to a place hundreds of miles away. I'll contact Admin and see what they say.

We had a similar problem when who is near was introduced. I was using the Opera browser and it would give us results the same as you are getting. Went back to the standard browser and had no problems since. |

This sometimes happens on android phones. My Samsung always shows the weather from the local weather station.
In February it told me the temp was 37 at 7am in morning....until I noticed my "local" weather station was somewhere in South America...
Local people on here we're 5500 miles away.
Like all computer problems the big ON/OFF hammer worked fine! |
