When getting up every morning is a complete chore and feels like a major effort...when sleep is impossible or thoughts keep you awake...when everyday feels hopeless.
Went through it many many yrs ago...but with lots of help from the right people i come out the otherside a lot stronger than before.

Thanks, i dont think i am, you can read things on the internet till your head hurts and are still none the wiser. I think i must just be a bit fed up!! |

not being able to eat, or maybe eating too much? not being able to sleep, cant stop crying. panic and anxiety attacks.
dependant on booze. every things seems an effort, frightened of being alone, frightened of going out. obsesive thoughts. |

You just sound a little down rather than suffering from depression. Depends how long it's all been going on for and stuff.

There are plenty of depression rating scales online: bank of questions that give an indication if your depressed (and what to do). These don't beat speaking to a professional about it, but are a good starting point. |

yeah that stuff..
and when life isnt worth living cant sleep cry all time it becomes an effort to do anything dress wash clean the home..shop eat , drink cos you think it helps (it doesnt) lock yourself away dont talk lose contact with family and friends cry more.. |

As above, the PHQ-9 & GAD-7 questionnaires are the ones used by many GPs for establishing low mood/depression, you can find them online. If you have any or some of the symptoms other people have mentioned you should see a GP as a starting point or maybe self refer to a counsellor if the service is available in your area, they also use the PHQ-9/GAD-7 score quite often. |

There is such a stigma attached to any form of mental illness so firstly well done for being brave enough to post on this thread. Go to your GP. Sometimes boredom and feeling unfulfilled can feel like depression - MIND are a great organisation and can provide you will free counselling and support. Get in touch with them as well and good luck xxx |

I don't agree with this. It is often only with hindsight you know you've been depressed, particularly if you don't know the signs. It is not unknown to drift in to depression nor to totally lose sight of what is 'normal' and not be aware of how much you are struggling. |

Agree with Crystal. The depressed party is often the last one to know. You battle on thinking that's just the way life is so you'd better get through it. You think you just need to man up, be stronger not realising that it's actually in your own head. The hardest part is admitting to yourself that you need help and often it takes someone else to tell you. I advise a trip to the GP but try and find one with a knowledge of mental health issues many don't have much idea. |

Feeling blank and flat. Also inexplicably anxious a lot of the time. Nothing about life excites you. Dreading each new day. Can reach the point of wanting to end life rather than live with the pain. Sleeping much more than usual. Lack of appetite. Tearful. A feeling of alienation from those around you. See a doctor and get it sorted. It is an illness just like any other, and you are by no means alone. |

If you have to ask then you don't. Big difference between feeling low and unhappy to being depressed.
Trust that you so will know if you suffer.
I was diagnosed firs time with depression when I was 18 then with severe depression at 29 and recently with bipolar.
Hope you feel better soon though |

The absolute best advice is go and see your GP early. There is a lot if help available nowadays... |
