Cropping allows you to make many pic from one.
I do understand what you mean though with people making themselves look bigger. I took one that makes me look like a donkey. Sadly it's not the truth!  |

I take my own pics with a phone so have to hold it at certain angles (phone)
Even am impressed how big it looks up close, body shots turn out ok as well
