"Was curious as to why some people read messages and don't delete them even though they don't reply. Anyone have any ideas ?" I have no idea. I often get people who I have sent and received several messages to and from just delete them all without even a good luck message. Just rude if you ask me.

Pure laziness on our part. SSimilarly I have thousands of read messages in my work and personal email accounts.
Focus on people that have replied rather than second guess why people haven't deleted.

I reckon that "reading and not deleting messages" might imply latent interest on the part of the recipient, but insufficient time at that moment for them to reply. Thats my reason for "reading and not deleting" when I'm the recipient ... but I do try to reply as soon as I can, because a message received is generally complimentary, and people have put time and effort into contacting me, and that always deserves a reply |

Too lazy.
we had a message from someone we didn't reply to asking if they still had a chance of meeting as we read but didn't delete.
didn't reply to that one either |

"i just read, reply, then bulk delete, if I'm interested in chatting further I will say so straight away, if not i will say no thank you, but delete all at once really."
can't beat keeping it simple on here |

I often keep messages for a while so I can then replay at a later date, or to remind me of that couple. I do reply though, maybe not straight away, I like to read the profile several times and take time to compose a message better.
Though I have suffered by being blocked for this on a recent occasion! (it is a tricky line to tread between being too pushy and appearing dis-interested) |

Because if you delete them without replying you get accused of being rude!
Because you can sometimes be busy!
Because you might want time to compose a lengthy witty/detailed/largely irrelevant reply.
Because your delete button is broken due to overuse.
Because you want to see how long it will take them to send a second message asking why you haven't replied to/deleted the first.
Because you then want to see how long it takes for the abuse to start because you haven't replied to/deleted either the first or second message and are therefore obviously a fake/timewaster.
Because you're playing hard to get - treat em mean, keep em keen.
Because you're not convinced they aren't your boss/second cousin/the lady from the local chip shop who scrimps on your chip portions.
And sometimes........just because! |
