Has anyone been?
We're thinking of going for a long weekend in March but we don't know anyone who has been.
Internet reviews are either "AMAZING" or "Don't go its awful".
We have found 4* hotels for £40 a night... and I'm assuming its quite cheap when you're there? We are just unsure of the nightlife and things to do.
Any advice would be very much appreciated!
Our other option is Amsterdam... but Budapest just appeals to me more!
Thankin you in advance! |

Was there a few years ago, spent some time there on a whistlestop tour of eastern Europe....it is a beautiful city with lots to see and do.....the cold fruit soup was a culinary revelation ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

"Cant say anything about costs because it was a long time ago, but Id highly recommend an afternoon at the baths at the Gellert Hotel. Quite an experience."
Went there for a long weekend a couple of years ago, and went to the baths which was great.
Lots of beautiful Gothic architechture in the city aswel if you like that sort of thing, nightlife is good, lots of bars and clubs to visit, food and drink was also very cheap. Trams go around most parts of the city so if you can't find a taxi, just hop on a tram instead. ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

Budapest is a fantastic city, I'd choose it over Amsterdam every day of the week. The people are warm and welcoming, everything is so cheap. There are so many beautiful places to see while there and the city is spotless. Go, I guarantee you will not regret it. |

Budapest wins for sheet beauty, as wonderful as Amsterdam is. It should also be much cheaper than Amsterdam.
I'd check the average weather for that period too, so that you can choose the right climate. Amsterdam weather is typically similar to central north Enland, and does have a fair bit of rain. I don't know Budapest spring weather, but think it's starting to warm nicely then, but won't be too hot. |

I grew up in Budapest and I can vouch for just how amazing the city is! The layout is pretty much the same as London, the Danube divides the city to Buda(the nicer, posh part) and Pest(the more urban and hip area), it's got a ton of amazing restaurants, the views are very pretty too and I think Hungarians are a pretty friendly bunch all in all!
Give me a shout if I can help you with any questions/advice

Stayed in the Hotel Tomos 12 years ago, loved the city, the statue park has to be on your "to do" list. It's actually made up of "old" and "new" bits, Buda and Pest, cant remember which one is which, but the old side of the river is fantastic.
As for the "nawty" nightlife etc, I cant comment from personal experience, but from what others have said it is possible to have a lot of fun lol! ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

I went for my stag do last July and what a place :D promenade city hotel is perfect location cheap but stunning rooms. Even the boys commented on how great the place wud be to bring a girl away.
Not as cheap as you think but nevertheless cheaper than home. Highlights include thermal baths, Boris' bar round the corner n the bar in the park
Sunday nightlife is pretty quiet. But boris saved us. Beautiful city with not one ugly person in sight (other than the best man) wud go bk tomorrow! ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

"Thanks so much for the info everyone... I am now sold on it! Now just have to pick the hotel... I'm very excited! "
Hotel Novotel Centrum was where I stayed, absolutely beautiful hotel, the architecture is magnificent as it's a very old building that's been renovated well. It's on the Pest side of the Danube, about a mile from the river. It's ideally suited for good public transport links with tram and underground stops less than a minute from the hotel. |
