Safe sex - what's that?

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

Just with a few interesting facts (and some of my observations) regarding so-called 'safe sex'.

FACT(S):

1. Ever wondered why every condom manufacturer states the efficiency against conception (98% or something akin to that), but not a word is said about efficiency against STD transmission (well, now some mention vague 60-ish% against some truly irrelevant infections)?

2. Research well all the serious STDs - statistically and medically relevant, those that have severe repercussions and common occurrence; research their modes of transmission and - wow! - guess what: they are ALL transmitted, well... same as many other diseases, that is by DIRECT CONTACT. Rubella can also be transmitted sexually, yet it is not classified as an STD: because most occurrences happen at too young age. Let's think - kissing, fingering, exchange of body fluids, watersports, spit, saliva and spunk all over the place, oral, anal... but a condom will make a difference...? (Especially, that skin on genitals is more prone to infection than, say, armpits, rest of the crotch, mouth... eyeballs...? Respiratory tract?) Oh, and, of course, when two ladies play with a vibe (just outside on the clit), they change condoms, covering this vibe to prevent touching gentle skin with each others' bodily fluids (YUK!, right? That would be GRUESOME! No...?)

OBSERVATIONS:

1. LOGIC seems to be long dead in this fading democracy... Easy solutions - put a rubber sock over Your willys, guys, and we're all SAFE! And it's cheap, too - keeps the illusion believable, economy-stimulating and going... F*ck avoiding drugs and drinking, proper hygiene - after all a person with compromised immunity has same probability of become infected and infect others as a healthy one, no? And f*ck regular checks - these are too complicated and embarrassing, especially since a rubber glove-finger is so ostentatious... almost like chewing Wrigley's supports good dental health - everyone sees You chewing, smells kinda minty and fresh -that must be THE thing!

2. BULLS**T is rampant, but weak, soft and unimaginative people are worse. How about safe skydiving, or safe scuba, safe bungee jumping? I'm not saying screw parachutes, harnesses and safety tanks - just saying, that when engaging in a 500 mph uncontrolled vertical dive, You probably want a shot of adrenaline (and, when You objectively think about it, wearing a helmet might be comforting, supported by all authorities and regulations, yet the chance of it actually saving Your life if the safety line fails is null...). If You want a warranty - buy Yourself a new toaster; want safety - stay home, watch a telly, wank off and go to bed! Dangerous fun - anyone remembers that any more? And do us all a favor, please - when You get there, do swab Your arm with alcohol before cutting Your veins committing suicide...

Kind regards,

me

I'm against following facts rather than whipped-up frenzy; and facts say that condoms do very little to prevent infections of any kind.

Centre for disease control seems to disagree

"Latex condoms, when used consistently and correctly, are highly effective in preventing the sexual transmission of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. In addition, consistent and correct use of latex condoms reduces the risk of other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), including diseases transmitted by genital secretions, and to a lesser degree, genital ulcer diseases. Condom use may reduce the risk for genital human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and HPV-associated diseases, e.g., genital warts and cervical cancer."

"Laboratory studies have demonstrated that latex condoms provide an essentially impermeable barrier to particles the size of HIV"

"Latex condoms, when used consistently and correctly, reduce the risk of transmission of STDs such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, and trichomoniasis."

"Genital ulcer diseases and HPV infections can occur in both male and female genital areas that are covered or protected by a latex condom, as well as in areas that are not covered. Consistent and correct use of latex condoms reduces the risk of genital herpes, syphilis, and chancroid only when the infected area or site of potential exposure is protected. Condom use may reduce the risk for HPV infection and HPV-associated diseases (e.g., genital warts and cervical cancer)."

I'm not going to die every single time I drive my car without a seatbelt and there is a chance I will still die wearing one, but its far safer to wear one than to not. We use condoms, practise safe sex and get tested regularly because while we enjoy this life style we also like to minimise the risk to us, not eliminate but minimise.

I'm never sure why the "anti condom" brigade always need to tell us how wrong we are for wanting to lower our risk and come out with all this baseless "they are lying to you" crap about condoms and protection.

Coming out of highschool and going into college I can attest to the fact that condoms definitely do help lower the risk of catching/ spreading different a forms of sexually transmitted infections. And until couples get married I would advise that you take precautionary measures. When you sleep with a person you are sleeping with everyone they have slept with as well..

Condoms decrease the risk but the risk is still there, ie safe sex does not exist because even with a condom a risk is there

There are 2 zealot groups on here that either think there's no risk it's all propaganda or that condoms are heaven sent and they're absolutely fine as long as they use them and try to assinate barebackers

Both are misguided in my view

I'm not exactly sure if this is for or against but, here's my view:

I like to think of it as a zombie appocalypse. You have two choices - Either baracade your property and do the best you can to protect yourself and your loved ones or... You can leave the door wide open and greet each walker with a hug.

Your choice.

CDC is not very reliable tbh, but let's examine that: reduces risk. Yeah - BY HOW MUCH? Answer - nobody knows, because relevant research was never made. Research made says that all these pathogens cannot come through the condom. FINE - this is not what I questioned! By the way: if any condom manufacturer had any numerical data, they would have made it their selling point; they don't.

I didn't say it doesn't help - merely that it helps almost as much as a helmet for a motorcyclist: World-wide there are rules forcing to wear helmets and all official and government institutions support that, although numbers are ruthless - they reduce the risk of death by less then 1% and risk of permanent injury - by less then 5%.

Condom stops HIV-size particles... REALLY?! Doesn't it stop particles size of a molecule of water (orders of magnitude smaller)?? It's not about the condom and cock You gullible people - it's about scrotum, throat, gums, eyeballs - they are much more prone to contract, then a dick. Want to try have sex with condom with sby having herpes simplex or rubella...? NO?! Why...? - well, we all know the answer to that one.

All the accusations of preferring bareback - condom is a tad like wearing socks for bath, yet still - don't mind some inconvenience at all, provided it makes some real difference. But it doesn't, that's all. In other words sure I'd wear it, but I know it is no precaution and I prefer med exam results to a dick-glove...

Yet another "I know better than all these people who spent their lives in research" post.

If you're at the point where you are out of hand rubbishing the findings of an organisation like the CDC then I expect you to present your scientific credentials and white paper study to show the counter point, otherwise just accept you're wrong enjoy your bareback fun and leave those of who dont want to alone.

People can do as they wish, it's their choice. I've often felt at gathering that i'm the condom police with my wand and handculfs.

Alot of people have the view that all that bad stuff it happens to other people in a far away land and then state "nothing wrong with me and my partner were clean" insulted you asked and turn it back on you for implying there dirty.

If people choice to play bare with people they know over time and trust them, i'd not have 1 issue with that as alot of people on here have small circle of friends. If a couple was having meets, every few days, going clubs, also had individual profiles then that means, lots of sex with tons of people= increases the chance of an sexual STD being past about

There will be people out on the town tonight who will have a one nighter bareback with a stranger they just met and the risk is there but often forgotten.

Nothing wrong with people having their own views or opinion but they shouldn't try and force their views on other people

Would you have sex with a Pornstar bareback?

They are having regular tests every few weeks and make sure the people they fuck have upto date tests results. People think pornstars carry all types of crazy shit but if your not getting regular checks done yourself, if just for your own peace of mind then how do you know your clean

Oh how intelligent - You read less then a half, wish not to discuss a single point made, yet - You are the one to knows better? Who is full of bs here, huh?

Regarding my credentials and CDC - they advocated drugs and therapies that left thousands dead and handicapped, yet now they seem to know better? Funny... In the 50s and 60s smoking was recommended and prescribed by doctors... and they all had great credentials. Guessed why? Yup, money

Law prohibits claims that are not substantiated - that's why no condom manufacturer can state certain claims (although they would if they could and that would boost sales sky high). But hey, sheeple - too much writing is baaahhhh-booorinnn' and telly knows betterr...

If you don't want to wear a condom, then don't. There are plenty of women out there who won't mind. But if I want to, regardless of the science behind it, then don't have a go at me for doing so. OK? OK? Fab!

The problem with going bareback and getting tested is that if you've caught something you stand a good chance of passing it on to all and sundry until the next test. I prefer to reduce the risk in advance, and I'm not sure why the OP thinks that's a bad thing.

Even if condoms only reduce the risk of contracting or passing on STDs by 2% then count me in. It's 2% more of a chance that I have of walking away from a meet unharmed.

Any reduction in risk, no matter how small, is a good reduction
