Single holidays/solo travel

Hi, can anyone recommend a travel company for solo/single travellers? I'm hoping to go away before 1st April and have looked at Exodus, Explore, Solo and Just You, but very few of the hols go from Manchester and to be honest, I'm a bit nervous going on my own and want to make sure I book with a good company.

Has anyone been on holiday with these or any other company?

southend

I always go on holiday alone. I prefer it, most of my friends like different holidays to me. I just use the normal travel companies, Thomson et al.

Never had any problems, apart from the time I asked a German to put sun tan lotion on my back, and he never ventured out to the pool again!

Ive gone on my own many times....greece,italy,turkey etc and just book with a normal travel agent and find one that doesnt apply any single supplements.

The "single" holiday firms charge way to much for my liking and the best holiday i had was to greece for 2 weeks. First day there i met and mom and daughter and a fireman from liverpool. We spent every day together and most nights partying.

If your out going and friendly, you can normally meet nice people on your travels .

good luck with your choice and try not to be nervous...its only midly scary the first time you do it

For most holidays, I would plan and arrange my itinerary myself, using sites such as Expedia, except for destinations where guided tours are recommended due to potential issues with personal safety.

I've not had a holiday in years because I don't want to be alone on one

I have no problem travelling alone either and actually really enjoy the extra adventure of it (lads holidays aren't really my bag).

I normally just sort it out myself rather than use a specific company.

I've travelled alone with Explore, they are a fantastic company. They were also happy to tell me the make up of the group that I was booking on to so that I knew that I wasn't the only solo traveller on it. I've done a few trips with them and you tend to get a good mix of characters and the nature of the trips is such you are continually on the move so no real chance of getting lonely.

If I do not go on holiday on my own, I do not go on holiday at all.

Planning is key, hence I prefer to recce the trip and arrange bookings myself.

This way, I feel I am in control, and not at the mercy of a travel agency who may not be entirely impartial.

North of The Wall - youll need your vest

Ive been travelling on my own for donkeys years and Id say it all depends on what sort of holiday you are looking for...

If you want a beach type holiday then any of the mainstream companies are fine - you just need to look into location in terms of being able to easily get transport to have a wander into town, or go out to eat in the evenings. And look into charges for single supplements.

If you are doing a city break or travelling around a country then you can book your own via internet using companies like Expedia - easy to do but probably takes a bit more confidence about being somewhere on your own and having to get around.

If fancy something a bit more off the beaten track then its probably a good idea to use one of the specialist companies for your first time. Ive been with Exodus before because it was a place where you needed permits to visit and that was easier to arrange as part of a group. Was more expensive than doing it independently but worth it I think.

Good luck and enjoy!

I went on a solo holiday with the adventure company it was tailored towards solo travellers with the option of flights included or you can sort your own flights (so you could fly from Manchester) they do everything from action packed to safaris to more laid back holidays. I'd travel with them again and worth a look at what they offer

Been with Solos a few times, even although they say from London if you phone you can arrange a flight from Manchester. Good company. I usually do my own thing during the day and meet at night for dinner. Another company is Friendship travel, Belfast based. Both reputable.

Why go alone, just start a thread looking for a holiday companion, you will be inundated, save single supplements, someone to chat to, and you don't have to be joined at the hip, companionship rather than sex. try it and see.

you will be fine...i actually went awat with a freind and she left me alone in ibiza and flew home...i just went downto tge bar and got some drinks...ebded uo chatting and tgat was that. being an ex travel agent id advise you to go with the normal agents as previous posters have said. look online to check whats available. whatever you choose have a great time x

Leeds

I had many holidays with friendship travel when I was single. Highly recommended for city breaks and sunshine holidays. They cover must budgets although they have to charge a little more to cover single occupancy.

But the suggestion to get a group together is a good one. Good luck

There is also a hotel in Crete called The Mistral. More or less exclusively single. You book hotel and they assist with flights. They lay on transfers. Great place.

Been single for quite a while and every year I say I'm gonna go away somewhere .

Thought of doing it on my own sort of frightens me a bit so I always back out

I do this. I prefer to organise my own. Sometimes I just drive into Europe with not even a hotel booked and just find accommodation as I go. I love the freedom of it.

I quite often holiday on my own, tend to book flights and hotels myself direct rather than use a travel agent. Travelrepublic is a good site to use. I'm off to Thailand in March on my own.
