I decided to browse the forum before logging in as I wanted to see what non-members could see.

The initial letter of each user-name is asterisked and our avatars are pixelated. Mine looks like a hand sticking a middle finger up . I clicked on my profile and am glad I have decided to make my profile private to non-members... have you/ don't you care/ didn't you realise?

A lot of people seem to think they are invisible on here. It's simple to read the forum without being registered.

Simple to register....

Absolutely valid point. The privacy settings will only protect you from outsider forum lurkers. It's better than zero privacy though

and dont forget, some employers search the internet when they are looking at job application forms, so be careful with user names etc. You dont want to be sat in an interview and asked some searching questions.

If you dont think it happens, talk to anyone in HR in a large company.

its not all about your username, think about email address etc as well. Its fairly easy for it all to be traced these days.

Whilst hacking might be illegal, there are large companies out there that find out more than what you can from google.
