Made to measure corsets

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

I'm looking for advice and recommendations please. I love wearing corsets but they always ride up and dig in and are generally just uncomfortable. My proportions are way out as you can see from my pic so I've decided to invest in a made to measure one.

I would actually like to go somewhere and be measured properly instead of doing it myself and ordering on line. I'm in Yorkshire but can travel over Manchester way too. I did find a place called kiku on tibb street in Manchester, anyone had anything from there? Thanks in advance for advice.

I cannot help with your Manchester question, but soft boned (plastic boned) corsets do have the tendency to ride up and often the boning will deform. Maybe try a long line spiral (metal) boned corset, they are more sturdy than plastic bones but have more flex than a rigid metal boned corset.

Steel boned, made to measure, is the way to go. They are expensive but definitely definitely worth it. Make sure you go to a dressmaker with experience of corsets.

You will probably have to visit twice before it is ready. I did. Once for the initial measurements and to decide on the style and materials and then once more when it is nearly ready to see if it needs tweeking.

I can't help you with Manchester I'm afraid. The dressmaker I used was near Rotherham, but she's stopped doing them now due to ill health.

Thanks. I'm actually in Huddersfield but from Manchester so anywhere within an hours drive would be great, maybe an hour and a half.

If you cant find one to make them then why not try getting a dressmaker to measure you and ask corsets-uk for advice? Or see if theres any steampunk fans near to you with ideas?

Instead of forking out a small fortune on a made to measure corset, try buying a few from the likes of corset-uk with different corset lengths, try them on at home in order to find one that is comfortable.

I have a short waist and long line corsets will dig.

I am tempted to get a made to measure under-bust one made by Vollers for every day use, just need to find the spare cash!

Steel bones do not bend and snap like plastic bones do, however they are more uncomfortable for a newbie to wear.

Thanks I already have a few from corsets uk and they are ok but because my proportions are quite extreme I will never get one to fit properly all over as I'm only a D cup.

I wanted a corset but as the OP says, if you are not a standard size its a problem. I am size 10 waist and hips with 32f boobs, so won't the corset cut off the circulation to my head?

And then there is all this stuff about getting it so much smaller if metal bones etc.... confusing stuff.

length is an issue if too long the metal digs into the hips xx

Love corsets, but every time I wear one for some time, my ribs are so sore afterwards, I'm wondering if they are ill fitting, or I'm pulling them in too tightly?

I know you need someone within travelling distance but might be worth contacting 'Religion' in Bristol (used to be run by Liz Hewitt). They may be able to advise if there is someone similar in your area. Amazing handmade corsetry with a price to match

Both they are so sexy and make you feel and look fabulous, but I do tend to shy away, the pain the next I sometimes feel isn't worth it

I would ask Vollers for help and advise on suitable type of neckline.

Sweethearts are good for ladies with bigger busts, and straight lines are more suited for ladies with smaller busts.

Thanks someone else sent me message saying about cathouse. I looked on line and they list everything they stock but don't mention made to measure. Ill give them a ring though as I'm sure if they don't they will know somewhere that does.

I'm a DD cup and will never go non steel boning again. Waist trainer corsets can take your waist in up to six inches. For max comfort aim for four. In time you can tighten up further.

I find them comfortable to stand in or perch but not sit comfy or drive

Not quite the look us girls want.

Mind you if you want to model it, we may be persuaded

For you girls with bigger boobies an underbust corset may well be a nicer alternative, I prefer them myself.

There are methods when it comes to tight-lacing and waist training, going too tight straight away will cause discomfort.

As I have already mentioned in another thread, the best advice I received is to allow the body to get used to the constriction at least 30min or more before final tightening of the laces.
