"Try and put everything within one main folder, then have sub folders within it . As I tend to have any pvt pictures or movies this way and the folder can't be accessed without a password"
im a bit of a technophobe and would need showing how to do this --- but its a case of stable doors and bolting horses |

it might matter to the people who appear in my group pics ( I respect the need for discretion) |

These days the IT people bypass the passwords anyway as they need to have a thorough look but also keep a look out for illegal images etc. If it is taken to a repair shop, whilst embarrassing, they too are legally required to keep it confidential, unless of course it is of an illegal nature. Best way to get round it is remove all the images prior to sending it in, but again they can do a restoration of said images.
Hope its fixed soon for you and someone from fab lives near by xx |

Ah we know the virus you mean as Mats mum had it. You need to boot it in safe mode and download spybot search and destroy (its free) update it and run it and it should get rid.
Mat is just doing some work at the moment, but he will come online very shortly.
He says no need to go to a repair shop as they are a rip off, even if your not great with computers you should be able to do it. He managed to get his mum to do it and she is awful with iT |

The Ukash virus is particularly nasty, are you getting the police warning page when you boot up ??
Whilst most anti virus will remove this be warned, this one writes itself into the registry as well and can be very very difficult to get rid of completely !!
Have repaired two PC's with this on and its a real nasty one ! It has the ability to hack your webcam as well.
Use Malwarebytes software or Hitmanpro and they should do the job

What gr8 advice. Now living in France need "back up" remotely, and mother tongue helps! Maybe we should have a section "members services" where we can use specialty fellow lifestylers? |

You might find it a good idea to store your photos online with something like dropbox it's free and always accessible from all your devices but not saved to your hard drive |

Last one of these I fixed it booted straight in to ukash screen so had to use Hitmanpro off a USB stick. Then ran Malwarebytes and found more shit.
If you have been swimming in waters murky enough to get done over like this I would suggest you have a really good clean up. |

I'm not in Leeds but you're probably better backing up and then reformatting and then reinstalling the os using the cd.
There are hundreds of guides online for this. You may be able to follow along on a smartphone if you have one. Xx |

You can normally roll back your windows system to a place before the virus occurred. I've done this in the past.
Windows saves previous versions of its registry so you can find a version prior to the virus being applied.
i cant remember exactly but its not hard. PM me if you want more help |

Why do we expext a man to come and repair our pc's or laptop's !! The person I use is transgender and she! as she now likes to be addressed would not be bothered with content but would advise on any dodgy sites visited ! Wich is common sense |

Depending on your setup, you should try and separate system and data. Keeping all your data on a separate removable disk. That way if the system goes tits up, you just unplug the data drive, and replace the system. You can get external drives with built in hardware encryption, so that even if the drive is stolen, the data is unusable.
Failing that, you can use a free tool called "TrueCrypt" to create a virtual encrypted disk drive on your main disk. If you do that, you can keep all your personal data in it, and if your PC needs to go elsewhere, it's hidden from view.
Another option might be to get a Network Attached/Accessed Storage (NAS) device. Basically these are disk drives you plug into your network (either wired or wireless) and act like a personal cloud, so you can access your content over your home network. Although I would be wary if you've got WiFi ... |

I would say that in future you would be better off storing your pics on an extrernal hard drive. Now even your pictures might be infected so if you do this now then try to access them again on a healthy pc you risk infecting it again. You joule try Maxi PC it's a boot up cd where you can access your files without booting in to windows. It has spy not built in an a few other useful tools!!! I used to be a desktop support tech! |

I said man because it actually was a man -- I would have had a computer anyone as long as they could fix it --- as for dodgy sites I only use this and one other which I have been using for over six years and I don't consider either to be dodgy -- in fact they are both quite fun,,,, and as for common sense wouldn't life be boring !!!!! |
