And my wife sitting across from me can't take her eyes off our waitress

Not that I am complaining

I wouldn't the woman should be allowed to work without being hit on.

Used to manage a restaurant - got offered a threesome and cash to serve topless.

Politely declined.

If only we could turn back time

You don't if anything you leave a decent tip with a note and your number and its up to her if she contacts you or not putting people in an uncomfortable situation and asking for their number while they work is crass at best and shouldn't be done.

I used to waitress and I would be mortified if anyone had asked for my no as its a job and some places would sack you for fraternising with the customers

I agree, write your number on a napkin or something before you leave

You don't. Simples.

You write a note on a piece of paper and leave it with the tip on the table.

The note should be non-sexual, inviting and peak her curiosity so she is likely to call. If she does call meet somewhere noisy and crowded of her choosing.

You don't approach while the lady is working.

Are you saying sexual harassment in the workplace is ok?

When I worked in retail so many guys came in I wish would have given me their number. Once guy did but in different context. When I did txt him found out had a gf so put me off. Now if I meet a guy I'm useless talkin to them go find out if interested/single

Ah a bit of righteous indignation to throw into the mix! Point me to where the harassment was suggested?

Not surprised you were asked - you look gorgeous.

Thank you

Weirdly one of the people that propositioned me was on TV a few weeks ago - but they haven't aged well

An opposing view point isn't moral outrage

I never said it was. I was referring to the expressed moral outrage.

I don't see any moral outrage

Then perhaps our definitions differ.

I think the suggestions of leaving a number on a hanky are good - that would have amused me.

I don't think there's any need for the suggestions that flirting with her may have been harassment etc. I found that flattering albeit rarely of interest.

The hand on the arse however is unwelcome - but I don't see anybody suggesting that - just a question about how to approach somebody they found attractive.

I think they do differ. Moral outrage to me suggests Mary Whitehouse. My daughter worked in a public facing role for some time and could have papered a wall with the number of pieces of paper she was handed with numbers on, it used to get her down that men thought that they could target her while she was working and if they knew how she referred to them I doubt they'd be flattered. However I do realise that not everyones the same but that was what I based my opinion on.

Well I could only have papered a small wall

She maybe politely declined because the majority of places do not allow staff to drink on premises, take drinks home with them, or fraternise with guests.

I work as a waitress/bar person/greeter, and it is embarrassing the amount of people who think flirting with me shamelessly will get them a free drink/money off their bill/a better table.

I take it all with a huge pinch of salt and a giggle. But it can be a pain in the arse.

When I bartended the locals always used to ask and flirt and that and my boss wasnt in the least bit worried cause she knew it was all in the fun but never once did I get a drink, pass out my number or play with them - even though one guy I wish I had he was a sexy farmer haha

Personally I wouldn't give my number to anyone at my second job (shifts in a pub) unless I am friends with them
