Well... you've about got it. The one I would add to that is, if you are talking to a couple remember there are two of them..... and I am not referring to the wife's tits... 
There is no such thing as a 'guide book' to this; you have to learn as you go and remember that other peoples preference are exactly that - theirs. They might not be the same as yours and you have to respect theirs - even if that means they do not want to play with you...
