is there any way we can tell which chat room a friend is in when we can see that they are in chat?

At the moment, no.

It has been suggested several times (in the Chatroom Feedback) forum, but I am wary. If Admin do develop this facility, I would want it to be optional or limited to friends-only. This is because I don't want strangers following me about through the chat rooms.

my friends tend to use same room but i wouldnt go looking for them if they werent in there
