There are good photographers who will do the job for next to nothing, there are really shit photographers that will charge the earth. Do your research, would be my advice.
Studio's can be a bit cold and sterile looking for erotica, or you end up working on a studio boudoir set that every man and his dog uses, so it's the same images but with a different model.
Sorry, this probably wasn't that helpful ! |

I have a couple of friends that started out as amatuer photographers, now one owns her own studio and does beautiful boudoir photography. Another doesn't have a studio, but does it in the person's home or wherever.
My sister is by no means professional either, but she has impressed me and I went to school for photography (many moons ago). lol
She does it on the side of her reg job, and she charges $50 set up fee- non refundable, and $175-250 depending on editing... And you get a cd or however she's doing it these days of everything that was taken to have printed anywhere.
My girlfriend uses her studio OR her home OR their home, but I'm not a hundred percent sure how much she charges. I know it's more... probably more like $400.
The other friend, well, I've just seen some of his work awhile back.... didn't talk to him either. But he was doing weddings, and I guess he's expanded. lol
He was charging anywhere between $200-$600 for a wedding (depended on what the couple wanted.
With this said, you have to realize that there are people out there that do it for a living professionally and don't have an "eye" for beauty or photography in general. And vice-versa... there are plenty of people who do it for a hobby or on the side as a business that should have probably been doing it for a living.
Best thing is to ASK to see the type of work you are interested in. LOTS of it. Even if they are venturing out in boudoir, ask to see a good sampling of their work.
All of us have different ideas of "excellent photography", so what one doesn't like, another might just love!
I don't know if this was any help, take what you can... lol |

If you ever find yourselves in Cornwall I'd be happy to do you a shoot free of charge. |

Instead of using a studio I would suggest you either used your home or maybe thought about hiring a good hotel room with nice furnishings etc and then used that as a backdrop (and I don't mean Premier Inn) sadly I can't show you the images I take here but if you pm me I can show you images I took at a recent shoot on an external website. Although I'm based in the proper north I do get down south quite a bit on business and I might be able to fit in some photography for fun. Get in touch if you are interested. |

Remember that the photographer has the rights to the images and therefore can distribute if they wish.
Same as wedding photos. It's the photographers property and you have to buy the copies.
A recent discussion, if you have say a wedding photo that you put on Facebook, and the photographer sees it, they can sue you, as they are the owner of the image.
I'm sure someone will look the legal stuff for for me. |

I know Libs have a pro photographer in a few times a year where you give them your SD card and they take some shots of you in the club. Believe they have somewhere private set aside where you can have it done. |

Only if you sign a model release form.
and most 'pro' tog's will already have water marked their photos anyway. |

You could do it without costs, however there are obviously people on here who have a professional set up.
There are loads of amateur photographers out there who need the practice. I do shoots for females and couples either at there place or hotel. |

I think a few people have already mentioned this, but with any "professional" photographer you should be able to get free consultations and most importantly see their portfolio. If they have normal every day pics of their models and pics of the same people posed and tarted up that would be a plus so you can get a better idea of what they can do. |

There have been protracted conversations on here about model release forms...they're basically (in this country at least) not worth the paper they're written on and the photographer still owns the copyright anyway |

No such think as a model release in the UK, thats just for USA and publishers out there who demand to see proof of age etc.
Publishers over here are only concerned with the copyright of the image.

"save the Money for the shoot - and go and buy a decent camera and take thousands of photos of your own.. "
This!!
It's great fun, much cheaper - and if you don't get it right first time - the practice and trial and error is seriously good fun!!! |

WOW - Obi agreed with something i said for once !!! lol..
We always wanted to do the studio type shoot and still kinda do in a way..
But having a decent fast camera means you can have so much Fun and take Hundreds of photos.. with allsorts of backgrounds etc..
Guaranteed if you take a few hundred photos on a fast dslr camera.. it will be a pain in the arse sorting them all out lol - but you should get some really good photos..
as obi said - its all trial and error and Great fun |

Have a friend who is a non-glamour model must correct this statement. A model release form is required in this country if the photographer wishes to avoid paying future royalties to the model.
I think there might be some confusion between this and 18 U.S.C. 2257 compliance statement which helps prove a model is of legal age to pose for pornographic material. Despite being US legislative law it's pretty much adopted world wide by adult sites and adult material producers.
If you google model release form UK you see plenty of standard ones. They can be adapted quite legally by clauses both parties sign. For example a model may pose for photo sets for web work but not print magazine or vice versa.
If undertaking a private shoot and no release is signed the photos could in theory still be used by the photographer unless you have an agreement in force that explicit states you are the sole copyright holder and agent for the images distribution.
And if a photographer does use your photos in a manner you are unhappy with would you be happy to go to Court and have possible Press attention and all those lawyers and maybe even barrister looking at them...to say nothing of the cost.

in regards to the post above
I suspect if you find a model who gets royalties from images she is scamming a photographer.
The photographer owns the images so why would the model get any royalties
This is what happens when people guess at something.
As for a standard google version...are you really going to use a copy contract off the web..hmm interesting
What is really important for people to know (the law for this country) by posing you have given the right for the photographer to take the picture..good luck in getting a court in this country to think otherwise.

Another thing that makes a big difference is post processing which can save a great photo that had lighting or other issues.
For couples a last minute five star hotel room can give the great setting especially with some extra lighting ie LED lights are cheaper now.

when we set up a shoot we use nice homes/cottages (can be found on google, some lovely ones in Derby) and have been published many times by using Coombe Abbey. If you get stuck and need advice feel free to drop us a line, we know a few people in the industry x |

Lucky for us, our good, gorgeous lady friend is a professional level photographer (unwell so has stopped work for now), and is going to be doing some shoots with Perrie as she is going to be submitting them (at their request) to Front Magazine and Suicide Girls We'll post some example pics on our profile when they're done |

Have you considered Bizarre too? They're always on the lookout for alt models and the details of where to submit are online and in the mag! You may even end up on the front cover!! |

Not exactly true.
Yes the photographer will always own the copyright of the pics but he NOT free to do as he wishes with them, he must ask and get you to sign a release form for him to use as he pleases.
If you have bought the pic from him he still owns copyright so as long as its the pic you have purchased you can use it as you wish Facebook etc as long as you are NOT making a profit from it.
If you use an image that you have not paid for I.e it has a water mark and you crop it off then yes he can claim off you for usage.
Copyright is a minefield but in short he owns copyright of pics but cannot do anything with them unless he has permission

After I finish a job I always sign a form giving full ownership to who ever has paid for them..
Its a paid job so gives tbe buyer peace of mind |

There's a lot of crap spoken about Model Release Forms and copyright on here and modeling forums, generally by people that use Google and get results from the USA !
Copyright is actually fairly difficult to get rid of, it just keeps coming back
Model Release Forms in this country are almost always used by photographer's, so there is no question of models not knowing that the photographer can and will (if he wishes) do whatever he likes with the images. |

Aww bless.
UK copywrite law 101: The creator of the piece owns copywrite to his work UNLESS he is being employed by another person to do that work unless there is an agreement to the contrary
Or in layman's terms:-
If I take a picture then I own it.
If you pay me to take a picture then you own it, unless we have agreed otherwise. |

Again
This is wrong, this is why as a wedding photographer I can charge more for extra prints, even though i have been paid to shoot the wedding.
People need to stop guessing and accept the fact that the photographer owns the image.
He can though sell the image under contract.
So even if you pay a tog to shoot you naked, unless you have a contract (a proper one written up by a copyright lawyer) he can re-use as he see's fit.
Its not a minefield, its very simple, the photographer has the cards on his side..honestly google how many photographers have been taken to court for breach of copyright (unless they stole the image). |

We are photographers and the above post is indeed correct. I own all of the images that I take. The only time it becomes complicated is on private property if I don't have permission to shoot.
We have our own studio and agree that it's a little sterile, but we generally hire a hotel room for boudoir shoots. We can go to our cclient's but prefer a new environment.
Here in the UK we charge 80 pounds which includes the room and a copy of the images is yours to keep and do as you wish with. It helps that we are a couple to a woman photographer is available.
Always check for previous work and NEVER see a photographer unless you know you can trust him. We do hear some stories. |
